2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 First Impressions
Friday, December 16, 2011
At this year's Automotive Journalists' Association of Canada TestFest, I had an adrenaline-dosed spate behind the wheel of the 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8. On the closed track, the big sedan delivered brute force, while on public roads it settled down and regained its luxury-car civility.

A V8 before it's too late?
Saturday, September 24, 2011
I consider myself very lucky. Not only because I'm doing the job I've dreamt of before I sported pimples, but because right now, I have the opportunity to drive both mega-horse, combustion-engined sports and luxury cars as well as environmentally-friendly EVs. And I love both. But these two might not coexist for long.

2012 Chrysler 300 First Impressions

CHELSEA, Michigan - "Fun, huh?" Judging by the wan smile the young Chrysler marketing intern gave me, he was already regretting his decision to ask for a track ride-along.

2008 Chrysler 300 AWD Touring Review
Saturday, April 12, 2008
Few American sedans lately have caused the same stylistic stir as the Chrysler 300. It's a gun-boat of a car which has been winning over buyers with its roomy interior, entertainment and safety features, and prestigious style. A subtle makeover for 2008 has sharpened up the look, and includes new taillamps and an integrated rear decklid spoiler. The tester had 18-inch wheels and fog-laps too- and was as sporty as a rolling iron safe can probably look. In all, it's a machine that quietly demands attention and respect.

2007 Chrysler 300C SRT8 Road Test
Monday, July 23, 2007
If you're reading this review, chances are you're interested in owning Chrysler's majestically maniacal 300C SRT8. Start saving for a speeding ticket now. The twisted engineers at SRT have done their thing, resulting in a sedan that's luxurious enough to drive your grandparents to church, fast enough to haul you around a racetrack, and anything in between.

2006 Chrysler 300C SRT8 Road Test
Wednesday, December 06, 2006
In a world of super-chargers, turbos and variable valve timing, displacement is back baby! For SRT8 applications, Chrysler has upped the cubes and horsepower in their punchy Hemi V8. Percolating just below the gates of insanity, the emboldened Hemi rumbling beneath the broad hood of the discreet, Chrysler 300C SRT8 displaces 6.1 litres (370 cu in) while producing an explosive, 425 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 420 foot-pounds of torque at 4,800 rpm. We don't often see those halcyon numbers these days; and with the price of fuel combined with environmental-related concerns, it's no wonder. Still, within reason, there is a place for these Herculean beasts in the automotive landscape.

2006 Chrysler 300C SRT8 Road Test
Tuesday, September 05, 2006
Given the short amount of time that we have on this Earth, it is most important to have some fun. Some people, like my long-time girlfriend, like to dance, others like to garden, travel, play video games, etc. Some like to drive, to race and to compete in the multiple forms of motor sports. One of the biggest and fastest growing manners of racing, other than drifting, is straight-line drags or quarter-mile sprints. This was big in the 60s and early 70s. The fact that GM, Ford and Chrysler were heavily involved in the sport proves this.

2006 Chrysler 300C SRT8 Road & Track Test
Wednesday, July 27, 2005
OK, let's get this straight. Chrysler takes the most powerful car in its class and pumps it up with an additional 85-horsepower and 30 lb-ft of torque? With such a move it's pretty clear that Detroit's number three automaker definitely believes in the team leadership creed of keeping the hot, hot in order to get the warm warmer, and leaving the cold behind..." or something like that.

Chrysler 300 C All Wheel Drive Road Test
Thursday, May 26, 2005
There are only a handful of all wheel drive sedans. They include the Ford Five Hundred, the A6 Audi, the Infiniti G35, the Mercedes E Class, the new Cadillac, and the Lexus GS. For whatever reason Chrysler has decided to enter this niche market, and in doing so stuffed it so completely that it is going to be difficult for the others to breathe. The reason is simple; the pricing and performance of the Hemi powered 300 C with all wheel drive are unmatched. The downside is that the all wheel drive makes the 300 C more bulky and less likely to even approach 18 mpg in daily driving.

2005 Chrysler 300C AWD Road Test
Monday, May 16, 2005
A true story: while on the photo shoot for the Chrysler 300C AWD, early one morning, rolling by street corners in downtown Toronto, I hear through the lowered windows, "Yo yo yo, check out that live whip!" "What?" I turn to my passenger. With a blank stare, he responds dryly, "He means, check out that awesome car, Justin." Case in point - while I might not be well versed in street slang, Chrysler's new 300C certainly is.

Follow-up Test: 2005 Chrysler 300C
Saturday, April 30, 2005
Celebrating its first year, there's no doubt the Chysler 300C has shaken things up in the North American car market. Like another paradigm-shifting consumer product, the Apple iPod, the 300C stands out in a field of me-too competitors, has a certain "gotta have it" appeal, and with the Chrysler brand's North American sales up 27 percent compared with a year ago, the car is putting money in the coffers of its German owners who these days could use the cash.

2005 Chrysler 300 Touring and 300C
Tuesday, November 23, 2004
The Chrysler 300 is significant on many levels. The first is Canadian pride. It is built in Ontario and was designed by a Montreal native. The second, it is selling like hot cakes - production has been increased to meet the high demand. The third is that people still want big powerful cars. It seems Daimler-Chrysler is really in tune with the desires of today's car buyer. We are on the edge of an energy crisis, some will even say that we are already knee deep in it, and yet car manufacturers are still producing incredibly mighty road warriors. That being said, the 300, already car of the year in some circles, does an outstanding job of combining luxury, refinement and style. It can be difficult to agree with the turn the automotive world has taken but I, as a car nut, find it even more difficult to dislike Chrysler's newest creation.

2005 Chrysler 300C Road Test
Tuesday, August 17, 2004
In Roman numerals "C" denotes a quantity of 100; in a Chrysler 300 the letter "C" denotes a quantity of horsepower more than three times that at 340, an impressive figure indeed - especially when backed-up by a torque rating of 390 pounds-feet! This palpitation inducing power is generated by a 5.7-liter (345 cu-in) HEMI V8, the likes of which we haven't seen since the Mopar heydays of the 1960s and '70s.

2005 Chrysler 300 Limited Road Test
Sunday, July 04, 2004
In spite of my wife's claim that my sense of fashion makes no sense at all, I stand firm in my belief that the 1960s produced the coolest cars ever - at least domestically. Ford's Thunderbird, Buick's Riviera, Lincoln's Continental and Cadillac's Coupe Deville just oozed coolness, along with the Beatles, JFK and Bond - James Bond.

2004 Chrysler 300M Special Road Test
Tuesday, May 25, 2004
With the introduction of the 2005 Chrysler 300 series, time is rapidly ticking away in the life span of the appealing 300M. During the automotive hay-days of the '50s and '60s, and as late as 1971, Chrysler utilized the '300' designation to mark its performance oriented offerings.

2005 Chrysler 300 Series Road Test
Monday, March 01, 2004
Every now and then a car comes along that is so important to its maker that the story isn't just about the machinery. Such is the case with Chrysler's new 300. I first saw it at last year's New York auto show, and was about as wowed as the rest of my colleagues. Talk about presence, the 300 makes an even more dramatic statement on the road than it did in the show.

2004 Chrysler 300M Road Test
Saturday, May 24, 2003
Like that somewhat "full figured" relative who surprises you with their elegant and athletic moves on the dance floor, the 2004 Chrysler 300M Special hides its real charm and character under a deceivingly large, although certainly attractive body.

2003 Chrysler 300M Special Road Test
Monday, November 04, 2002
If size has anything to do with it the 300M is the best sport sedan value pound for pound, bar none. But that's not all. Chrysler's flagship model garners a lot of attention when you drive around town as well, due mostly to its handsome upscale styling and a certain level of respect. Respect? A lot of premium sedan buyer's know that this domestic isn't all show and no go - previously the case for many of its North American made competitors. The 300M was one of the first on this side of the Atlantic to behave like a European, i.e. accelerate with purpose, corner with aplomb and demonstrate superb straight-line stability. What's more its combination of shortened exterior dimensions and cavernous interior and cargo volumes are rare in this segment.

2001 Chrysler 300M Road Trip
Monday, January 01, 2001
Salt Spring Island lies about three hours on the slow boat and approximately a single hour on the direct ferry, between the Vancouver lower mainland and Vancouver Island. There isn't much there, which is precisely the reason for going. Ganges is the major 'urban' center, with all the conveniences necessary to give locals no reason to leave the island. The other towns are Fulford Harbour and Vesuvius - both quaint picturesque villages with little more than their own General Store, Hotel, Pub and craft store.

2000 Chrysler 300M Road Test
Saturday, January 01, 2000
It's not every day that a car comes as a surprise. Yet today, an American "sport" sedan sits at the foot of the driveway. It just seems strange to put the words American and sport sedan together in the same sentence - or does it? The 300M pulls its heritage from Chrysler's classic 'letter cars' which made stock car history in the late 50's. These were fabulous cars that raced on oval tracks and drag strips, yet felt out of place on anything that resembled a curve.

Lexus ES300 2002
Monday, April 29, 2002
The new Lexus ES 300 brings a new meaning to the word 'refinement'. Its dynamic lines and luxurious interior make this automobile one of the finest that I have ever driven in its class. Lexus has also equipped the ES 300 with a new electronic ("drive by wire") throttle control to improve engine response. The result is that the high-performance V6 engine generates a wide torque curve for immediate response at any speed, while achieving an Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV) certification for fuel economy and emissions performance. Optional with the Luxury and Premium Packages are the Lexus Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) system with Brake Assist and integrated electronic traction control (TRAC). VSC uses throttle intervention plus the ABS actuators and sensors to help maintain directional stability under adverse road conditions, while Brake Assist can determine an emergency braking situation and, if the driver has not applied enough pedal pressure to engage the ABS, supplements the braking power applied.

CHRYSLER TO BUILD LIMITED RUN OF 300M SPECIALS
Tuesday, October 30, 2001
In the tradition of classic special edition Chrysler 300s, Chrysler will build a limited run of its new 2002 300M Special starting November 5. A total of 8,500 Chrysler 300M Specials will be built, with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $32,595, which includes $655 for destination.
"In 1960, we introduced a limited run of 300F Specials built off of our 300F letter series car," said Tom Marinelli, Vice President, Chrysler/Jeep® Global Brand Center.

2002 LEXUS ES 300
Thursday, August 09, 2001
With the IS 300 out there looking after the sports side of the entry-level luxury-sports sedan market, Toyota's upscale Lexus division has moved the new 2002 ES 300 model over toward the luxury side of the house. Though Lexus claims the larger and roomier ES 300 (like the Toyota Camry it shares a platform with) will have "more responsive driving pleasure," the company also notes that, "In many ways, the news ES 300 more closely aligns with the LS 430 flaship model."
