Winter in the Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec
Wednesday, April 18, 2012
The rear-drive performance sedan isn't a favorite mode of transportation with most cold-blooded Canadians travelling in the winter. Often considered 'slippery', 'scary' or 'unstable', many shoppers dealing with snowy roads avoid rear-drive cars in favor of front or all-wheel-driven models.

2012 BMW 528i xDrive Review

A new 4-cylinder engine has booted BMW's naturally aspirated straight-six from the powertrain roster -- and it's caused a bit of an uproar in the community.

2012 Fiat 500 Lounge Review
Sunday, April 01, 2012
Like most Nonnas, mine is Italian. And when the Fiat 500 started making me proud of my Italian side with its stylishness and fun-to-drive attitude, I gave her a call and asked her what Italians would call the little Italian car, in Italy.

Abarth: A History of Making Small Go Fast

Serious tuning companies tend to specialize on one brand, because engineering performance systems is not cheap. Consider Alpina with BMW, BRABUS with Mercedes-Benz, Mugen with Honda, and RUF with Porsche, to name a few.

2012 Fiat 500 Abarth First Impressions
Thursday, March 08, 2012
North America has certainly embraced the newborn Fiat 500. But Fiat aficionados and track-loving people of all stripes have been impatiently waiting for the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth, the member of the 500 pack that stays up too late smoking cigarettes, always argues in a loud voice, and likes nothing better than kicking butt on a race track.

2012 Fiat 500 Lounge Review
Sunday, February 26, 2012
A lot has been said about Fiat's return to the US and Canadian markets, and they probably couldn't have chosen a better model to start with. Oh, not because they'll be selling tons of copies of its 500 subcompact -- that market segment has yet to catch fire -- but because it stands out and makes a statement.

When baby makes three Part I
Monday, February 27, 2012
I recall vividly sitting in my doctor's office after a tense moment spent trying to locate the heartbeat of my seven-month-old belly bump. Breathing a sigh of relief when she found it, I said, "When do you stop worrying about them? When they're in college?"

2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec Review
Wednesday, February 15, 2012
Despite punishing fuel prices, large performance sedans remain highly popular in the premium segment. The 2012 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec represents all that's desirable in that market, and it does so with more horsepower and less capital outlay than most.

2012 BMW 528i xDrive Review
Friday, February 03, 2012
New 4-cylinder powered 5-Series is the best-rounded of the popular midsize BMW's line. The $56,900 528i xDrive should be at the very top of your luxury car shopping list.

2012 Infiniti QX56 Review
Sunday, January 15, 2012
Feeling good is never overrated. Safe, warm, cozy, relaxed -- we are hard-wired to seek out those things that make up our version of Heaven. Comfort always finds its way onto lists of criteria when people shop for new cars. Be it in the first or fifth position, no one weeds through cars looking for the one that will break their back, blow out their eardrums or want them to amputate a leg. That is, unless they're in the market for a race car. Good for you if you are!

Car and trucks expected to pass in 2012-2013
Wednesday, January 04, 2012
We love to speculate as much as the next guy sitting in some fancy office on Wall Street. The big difference is that we tend to have a better idea of what we are doing, plus our guesses won't have you living in the street or working at McDonald's to make ends meet during your retirement.

2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec Review
Tuesday, December 13, 2011
So much has been said and written on Hyundai, that I wasn't sure what I was going to bring forth the next time I was going to be called upon to scribble a few words on the Korean giant. Then, earlier in 2011, they announced the coming of a more powerful V8 that was to sit below the bonnet of the new top-of-the-line Genesis R-Spec.

2006-2010 Mazda5 Pre-Owned
Saturday, October 22, 2011
The Mazda5 really put the word 'mini' back into the word minivan. A compact six-seater with sliding doors, the 5 launched in its first generation for the 2006 model year, and has now been replaced by a new model that will compete with the Kia Rondo, the upcoming Chevrolet Orlando and other loosely-categorized 'crossover' models in its segment.

2012 Fiat 500 Lounge Review
Wednesday, August 17, 2011
The word Fiat evokes images of sun-drenched cobblestone courtyards, Mediterranean air and the pungent smell of espresso. Produced between 1957 and 1975 as an economical post-war city car, the iconic Fiat 500, or Cinquecento as it's known in its native Italy, is still a common sight on roadways all over Europe.

Chelsea Proving Grounds, a Chrysler smorgasbord
Wednesday, June 29, 2011
I'm living la dolce vita behind the wheel of a cheery little red Fiat 500. The road winds through mixed forest, and I've got one eye peeled for wayward turkeys and deer. Once I've completed the route, I plan on exchanging the wee Fiat for a Charger SRT, menacing in black with understated Mopar decals.

2012 Mazda5 GS Review
Monday, June 27, 2011
Mazda is one of those car companies who seem to do no wrong. From the Miata to the brand-new Mazda2, there's very little to complain about in the Mazda lineup. After all, the Mazda3 was among one of the best-selling cars in all of Canada in 2009-that's quite a title to hold. Even the flashy RX-8, which has its flaws, sees more love than hate.

2011 BMW 535i Gran Turismo xDrive Review (video)
Wednesday, April 06, 2011
The changing demands of today's new car shoppers are resulting in more and more genre-busting models like the BMW 535i Gran Turismo. One of the Bavarian brand's latest model lines, this cruiser lives in the same ballpark as machines like the Toyota Venza and Honda Accord Crosstour as a mishmash of car, crossover and wagon.

2011 BMW 550i xDrive Gran Turismo Review
Friday, March 11, 2011
I'm guessing a few years ago, someone at BMW headquarters had a vision or a dream that foretold the complete demise of the station wagon and of the blinding hate for SUVs. This person (who had probably seen a Mercedes R-Class in a parking lot or used to work at Honda and got fired for designing the Crosstour) imagined a time and place where a vehicle with limited versatility, little appeal aesthetically and emotionally would become a highly sought-after commodity. This person may have been right; however, this is not the time nor is it the place.

2011 BMW 550i xDrive Review
Tuesday, February 08, 2011
In our line of work, it's obviously a lot easier to find shortcomings in a $20,000 car than in an $80,000 car. That high price might seem expensive for a transportation device (and it is), but once you spend some time with it, you realize that it's almost worth that sum.

It's no secret that the Fiat 500 will soon be part of the Canadian automotive landscape. 2011 Audi R8 Spyder First Impressions
Tuesday, November 09, 2010
The Audi R8 may have gone topless, but it proves just as exotic while delivering the same exhilarating performance. Still, as far as first impressions go, I have to admit that the ''Wow'' factor isn't quite as strong now. And I'm not just talking from an innocent bystander point of view; at the AJAC's TestFest, taking the R8 Spyder for a spin felt a lot less compelling for many journalists on hand.

2011 Infiniti QX56 Review
Friday, September 03, 2010
I normally don't like huge vehicles like this QX56. They are challenging to park, costly to fuel up and when you're behind the wheel of one, people make you feel like you're a shameless polluter. But when it's time to go road tripping with the kids during vacation time, a big SUV like this Infiniti makes life a lot easier.

Except for the controversial, eyelash-batting looks of the last-generation model, the 5-Series is a car that BMW seems to nail iteration after iteration.
This machine has long been held in high esteem by enthusiasts for its driving dynamics, looks and luxury, and it's one of Germany's staple automotive exports. Like it or not, the 5-Series is also a car that sets a standard by which numerous others are measured.

2011 BMW 550i Sedan Review

The luxury sedan niche is particularly diverse and offers a wide array of models - and prices! The very definition of this type of car varies from one consumer to the next.
