Statement by Acura Regarding Power Steering Hose Recall: 2007-2008 Acura TL

Acura will voluntarily recall approximately 4,266 model-year 2007-2008 TL sedans in Canada to replace the power steering hose. Over time, the power steering hose in affected vehicles may deteriorate and develop a fluid leak. A power steering fluid leak could lead to a loss of power steering assist. Power steering fluid leaking onto a hot catalytic convertor may generate smoke or, in the worst case, lead to an under-hood fire. No accidents, injuries or fires related to this issue have been reported.

Yes, the Acura CSX might be little more than a dressed-up Honda Civic, but the luxurious little compact sedan enjoyed decent sales and a loyal following of owners. Like the Acura EL and Acura Integra before it, the CSX was a reliable, sporty and easy-to-drive compact sedan with an eye for affordable premium luxury.

I'm casually shopping for a good used car, and I'm particularly looking to find a relatively pristine 2nd-generation Acura Integra. Arguably one of the best cars Acura ever sold, I fell in love with the Integra's surgical steering, straightforward cabin and rev-happy engine. It was also a gorgeous looking car - as long as it was equipped with a rear spoiler.

There are many, many examples of bad ideas gone worse, and I've had the pleasure (or is that displeasure?) of driving a few in my short career. One such vehicle was the Pontiac Aztek, famous for being hideous. It was functional, but only the vision-impaired could fully appreciate its design.

For anyone who follows my reviews and articles (which, of course, you all do), you'll know I'm not a fan of bigger vehicles. SUVs, pickups, even some CUVs are usually lost on me. I like sedans, compacts and subcompacts: the more a manufacturer can cram into a small package, the better it is for me. Perhaps it's my lifestyle: I have no need for such a vehicle - at least, that used to be the case.

The Acura 1.7EL and EL basically amounted to a luxury-enhanced version of the Honda Civic - but it was a popular and well-received model that delivered premium luxury in an affordable, cheap-to-run package. The last-generation EL was available from 2001 to 2005 inclusively, before being replaced by the CSX.

Think for a second at the meaning of this review's title... Actually, the title should read: The one I've been waiting for. I have personally been a big fan of the TL since the mid-90s. When the second generation of the car arrived in 1999, I was in heaven. By 2004, for this iteration of the car, it was (and still is) the only alternative to anything German from that time. One thing and one thing only was missing in the car and it was AWD.

Acura's sport-derived RDX is a modestly priced near premium-level compact crossover SUV that's powered by Acura's only turbocharged engine. Although a front-wheel drive (FWD) arrangement is now available in the US, all Canadian-bound RDXs continue to arrive in all-wheel-drive (AWD) formats, and that's not such a bad thing given the climate north of the 49th.
