Under the guise of enhanced "VIP Customer Care Coverage," Fisker has announced it will replace batteries in its 2012 Karmas. Its high-voltage battery supplier, A123 Systems, discovered a latent manufacturing defect in some prismatic cells made at its Livonia, Mich., facility that could result in underperformance and decreased durability.

Franklin, Tenn. - Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) has selected W.G. Yates of Philadelphia, Miss., as the general contractor supporting the pre-construction services phase for Nissan's new battery plant that will be built at the automaker's vehicle assembly plant in Smyrna, Tenn. The battery plant will support the assembly of the Nissan LEAF that will be built at the Smyrna plant in late 2012.

The Californian company has announced that it will commercialize a zero-emission vehicle shortly, the Nautilus E-30. Designed to transport containers in ports and airports, the E-30 can haul up to 27,000 kg or 30 tons. The E-30 is equipped with high-capacity batteries that have an estimated 7-year life. They can be recharged to 60% in one hour, while a complete charge will take between 4 and 6 hours.
