2011 7-seater SUV comparo match
Wednesday, August 31, 2011
As spring rolled in, our editorial team at the office got some great news: three members of our gang were going to be new, first-time parents. That got us thinking about family vehicles as two of the three began to consider a new set of wheels. Anticipating more kids in the future, the guys and gal came to one unanimous conclusion: No minivans!

2011 Mazda CX-9 GT Review
Tuesday, July 19, 2011
Sometimes family cars can be a bit blah. No offense to any automakers out there, of course, but when practical 2.45-children family vehicles are put on the road, they're usually on the more mundane side. From ho-hum designs to interiors that serve more purpose than pleasure, it's often hard to get excited about your people carrier.

2010 Mazda CX-9 AWD GT Review
Monday, October 25, 2010
This must be the time for crossovers. The Mazda CX-9 came to me in the week between storms, so I managed to test every system it came with. Mazda made that easy to do because they sell two versions of the CX-9, the GS and the GT. There are a few options that you can add, but the body style stays the same.

2010 Mazda CX-9 GT AWD Review
Thursday, March 18, 2010
The launch of the Mazda CX-9 in 2007 almost sent a shockwave through the auto industry, more precisely the full-size SUV/CUV segment, with bold lines and shapes that broke the conservative styling mold. Today's growing trend toward more organic designs has forced Mazda designers to revise the big CX-9 in order for it to remain fresh and up to date.

2009 Mazda CX-9 GT AWD Review
Wednesday, May 20, 2009
Mazda has been brainwashing us for the last six or seven years that they are a performance brand, a sport-oriented manufacturer that builds vehicles for those who like driving pleasure. So that basically means that every model in their line-up must be baked with those key ingredients to be tagged as a true Mazda.

Mazda shows 2010 Mazdaspeed3, CX-7 and CX-9 at New York
Thursday, April 09, 2009
Fire up those forearms, torque-steer fans! The Mazdaspeed 3 is back, exploiting the 3's recent styling language for an even bigger visual punch, including a large vent in the hood. Mazda says the new model will carry forward with an updated version of the MZR 2.3 liter turbo engine that's now cleaner and more efficient, too.

2009 Mazda CX-9 GT AWD Review
Wednesday, March 18, 2009
Zoom-Zoom in snow is just as much fun as it is on pavement, particularly
when your CX-9 has the optional all-wheel drive. Zoom-Zoom is really an
attitude about driving as much as it is an advertising campaign. I came to
this realization about the second day that I had my top-of-the-line Mazda CX-9 GT. The way I see it, the CX-9 is much more than just another
cross-over-utility vehicle (CUV).

First pictures: Mazda CX-9 2007!
Monday, November 21, 2005
At first glance, this dizzy camouflage may make you think you're looking at yet another Aviator or Ford Edge testing in the cool winter climates, but this variant built on a stretched Mazda6 platform, is actually Mazda's own seven-passenger crossover referred to as the CX-9.

2008 Mazda CX-9 GT AWD Long-Term Review (part 2)
Saturday, October 25, 2008
We racked up 9,000 kilometers in the CX-9 and had to send it back home. But during that time, this SUV changed some people's preconceptions that a big vehicle is clumsy, slow and fuel-thirsty. Actually, two of these three preconceptions changed, and the last one didn't.

2008 Mazda CX-9 GT AWD Long-Term Review (part 1)
Sunday, June 08, 2008
Mazda seems to have developed the good habit of offering very attractive cars, starting with the RX-8. Nowadays, when looking at the Japanese automaker's lineup, one immediately notices that every model shares some similarities with the legendary coupe. Mazda also seems to be feeding off success -- the CX-9 was awarded the title of North American Truck of the Year by auto journalists at the 2008 NAIAS, in Detroit.

2008 Mazda CX-9 GT AWD Road Test
Sunday, December 30, 2007
Ask any automotive journalist what the most challenging sort of vehicle to evaluate is, and they'll probably tell you it's the crossover SUV. If for no reason other than the sheer number of contenders, this market is a doozy. Mileage versus power? Off-road ability versus handling? Car like agility versus truck-like ruggedness? Sometimes, these tradeoffs go without a hitch- but other times they can leave one feeling like they're rolling around in a great big schizophrenic minivan.

2008 Mazda CX-9 GT AWD Road Test
Friday, December 07, 2007
I don't usually make comparisons when assessing a vehicle's strengths and weaknesses. Instead, I consider said model for what it truly is, even though it competes in a well-defined market segment. But in the case of Mazda's CX-9, I had almost no other choice: this new crossover shares a lot of visual similarities with its little brother, the CX-7.

2007 Mazda CX-9 GT AWD Road Test
Thursday, May 24, 2007
The CX-9 has all the ingredients to succeed: good liveability, versatility, solid handling and adequate performance. But (and there is always a "but") parking the vehicle and maneuvering through city traffic prove to be a delicate and sometimes frustrating affair because of the lack of lateral and rearward visibility.

2007 Mazda CX-9 First Impressions
Friday, January 26, 2007
Victoria, British Columbia. Mazda is in a very enviable position. The last ten years have seen Canadian sales almost triple, from under 30,000 to over 80,000 units. In 2006, they were the third strongest Japanese manufacturer in sales, had the second best selling car in Canada, the Mazda3 and firmly held the 6th position overall for total sales.

2007 Mazda CX-9 Preview
Wednesday, October 11, 2006
Most car companies always look for unchartered market segments in which they can offer new models to attract a larger audience. The next big thing - literally - appears to be the full-size crossover SUV segment. Spearheaded by GM's trio of Saturn Outlook/Buick Enclave/GMC Acadia, which will be launched as 2007 and 2008 models, this type of vehicles will build upon the success of regular crossovers by adding more space and versatility.

Gone is the dash-mounted flower vase in the latest version of Volkswagen's Bug. Gone too is much of its cutesiness, replaced by a notable degree of sportiness intended to broaden the Beetle's target market by attracting male attention.
