Novozymes applauds US Government for supporting expanded ethanol production

The Obama Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced on February 3 final revisions to the National Renewable Fuel Standard program (RFS) for 2010 and beyond. The announcement affirms the important role biofuels play in creating new jobs, growing the economy, diversifying energy needs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The environmental benefits of sugarcane ethanol will be showcased during the 2010 Washington Auto Show as part of the event's Advanced Technology Superhighway. Sugarcane ethanol has been widely credited with a significant reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 90% when compared with gasoline - better than any other biofuel available today.

Governor Schwarzenegger Join in Driving the Future of Fueling in California

Sacramento, CA - California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger joined San Diego-based GreenHouse on the steps of the State Capitol this morning as E-Fuel Corp. unveiled the final production model of the revolutionary E-Fuel MicroFueler, a portable micro-refinery fuel system for consumer use. The State of California's Department of General Services is also exploring a pilot program to test the MicroFueler with its flex-fuel vehicles. Edmonton to be site of world's first municipal waste-to-ethanol facility

Edmonton will be home to the world's first industrial-scale facility to produce biofuels, primarily ethanol, from municipal solid waste -- a project estimated at $70 million. The City has signed a 25-year agreement with GreenField Ethanol, Canada's largest ethanol producer, and Enerkem, a leading biofuels technology company.

New legislation on biofuels

The Canadian government wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020. Last Wednesday, the House of Common passed a new bill to increase the availability of biofuels across the country. As a requirement, all gasoline sold in Canada will have to contain at least 5 percent ethanol by 2010. The latter is made from corn, which seems to be an interesting renewable source. However, ethanol can also come from other sources.

Cellulosic ethanol to be produced in Canada

GreenField Ethanol and Enerkem have signed a Binding Term Sheet outlining their plan to produce cellulosic ethanol on a commercial scale. By expanding the availability of this new biofuel, the two companies will offer Canadians a greener, more affordable alternative to fossil fuels.

Racing is the ultimate test bench for various systems and techniques designed to eliminate noxious emissions and reduce oil consumption. FYI, the diesel-powered Audi R10 won the 2007 ALMS Championship.

Right now, let's forget about fully-electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles; mass production won't become a reality until 10 years from now -- or maybe later. While big auto companies keep believing, the technology still needs major improvements.

Volvo XC60 Concept

Volvo has proudly announced details of a new prototype model which runs on low-emission bio-ethanol fuel. Called the XC 60, the Scandanavian automaker's latest prototype is a mid-sized SUV which packs punch from a 265 horsepower inline-6 engine with 251 lb-ft of torque. The mill is tuned to run on the clean and renewable fuel source. Originally introduced in the S80, it promises 0-60 in around 8 seconds and a top speed of over 140 mph.
