Winter in the Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec

Much like Cadillac, Hyundai wishes that consumers think of the present and the future when it comes to their brand. Like Cadillac, when remembering the past, they want potential buyers to hold certain ideals in mind. For Hyundai, it's value. For Cadillac, it's "Cadillac."

2012 Hyundai Veloster Tech Package Review
Thursday, February 02, 2012
The name "Veloster" sounds like a blend of "velocity" and "roadster." Unfortunately, the Veloster by Hyundai is neither fast nor a convertible. Despite a name that conjures up a different image in my mind, the Veloster is cool and downright unique - and that's a breath of invigoration within a market of stale air.

2012 Hyundai Accent GLS Hatchback Review
Thursday, January 19, 2012
I've always had a fondness for good used hatchbacks -- in one form or another there's been one in my driveway for the past two decades. They're what I call "honest cars" - in contrast to the wallet-emptying, headache-inducing drama of my project cars, my daily-driver hatchbacks must fulfill a few key criteria: they must be fuel-sippingly frugal, have easily obtainable parts, and above all, be unfailingly reliable, never failing to turn over at 40 below, even when left for weeks on end in some godforsaken industrial lot while I drive that manufacturer's press cars.

2011 Korean automaker report card
Tuesday, December 20, 2011
Here's an automaker that just can't fail. Actually, the Veracruz (launched in 2007) is the brand's last flop, not counting the Entourage minivan. The fact of the matter is that the Sonata, Accent, Tucson and the likes have all been monster hits. Sales are so strong, in fact, that Hyundai is even working on niche models with a limited production run.

2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec Review

So much has been said and written on Hyundai, that I wasn't sure what I was going to bring forth the next time I was going to be called upon to scribble a few words on the Korean giant. Then, earlier in 2011, they announced the coming of a more powerful V8 that was to sit below the bonnet of the new top-of-the-line Genesis R-Spec.

The biggest car plant in the world
Friday, November 25, 2011
ULSAN, Korea - As the cars pass slowly by, they bear little resemblance to the sleek sedans they'll eventually become. Skeletal frames, they slowly gather parts, growing incrementally as they travel down the line. Here, workers move in well-rehearsed choreography, adding suspension parts and exhaust systems; there, a giant robotic arm swivels and plants a windscreen in place with unfailing accuracy.

Hyundai's powertrain lead
Friday, November 11, 2011
You've got to wonder, like seriously, if Hyundai's got anyone at BMW worried. The German automaker virtually pioneered the now-mandatory mentality of efficient performance, launching one powertrain technology after the other to create machines that were both gutsy and efficient. The Korean automaker, in many regards, is right on their tail.

2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Review
Tuesday, September 20, 2011
I don't recall ever driving a car from a Korean manufacturer that's had as much character and testosterone as the Genesis Coupe - particularly with the V6. Comparisons with the Ford Mustang are inevitable, and while Hyundai didn't quite nail it this sports car is no less impressive.

2012 Hyundai Elantra Preview
Tuesday, October 04, 2011
You'll hardly be surprised to hear there are very few changes to report with regards to the 2012 Elantra. After all, the all-new 5th generation Elantra was only introduced last year (as a 2011 model), and when a company's doing so well with its current offering, there seems little reason to alter a winning recipe; year-to-date, Elantra sales in Canada are about to surpass those of the Honda Civic.

2012 Hyundai Accent GL Sedan Review
Friday, August 19, 2011
The last-generation Hyundai Accent lived in an era when subcompact cars hadn't quite become the hot item they are today. As Hyundai's cheapest, it had to look safe, sensible and laid-back. So, worthy as this little machine was, it never got cocky about it where visuals were concerned.

2012 Hyundai Genesis First Impressions
Thursday, June 23, 2011
LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Sometimes past experiences can be quite scarring and leave an impression we're not likely to forget anytime soon. Be it a traumatizing accident, the loss of something important or a crappy car. Trust me, it can be quite life-altering to own a car that's a piece of junk the moment you drive it home. And unfortunately, the make of that scarring vehicle will forever hold a tarnished place in your heart.

2012 Hyundai Accent First Impressions
Wednesday, June 22, 2011
LAS VEGAS, Nevada--As the temperature read 106 °F on the dash and I looked out over the Hoover Dam from behind the wheel of my 5-door baby blue 2012 Hyundai Accent, I felt quite cool, calm and collected. Not only was the A/C keeping me comfortable, but so too was the vehicle.

Las Vegas, baby
Tuesday, June 21, 2011
As I touched down in what looked to be a barren desert landscape, Las Vegas appeared in my airplane window. Neat, groomed neighbourhoods of perfectly spaced homes in triangles, squares and circles of green surrounded by cascading brown spaces, connected with black tarmac greeted me. And as we quickly approached the runway, suddenly The Strip loomed. I spotted the Luxor first, then the MGM Grand, then the Eiffel tower--just like the movies. So it really does look like that.

2011 Hyundai Equus Signature Review
Thursday, June 30, 2011
I commend car manufacturers who take a risk. From outlandish designs to entering new markets, companies that take a risk (and stand behind it) should be recognized. Of course, not every risk is a success (Amphicar anyone?), but for the most part, going out on a limb in the automotive world gets you noticed and gets you sales.
