Besides the Ford Escape, no other compact SUV or crossover moves off dealer lots more frequently in 2011 than the Dodge Journey. Since its early 2008 launch as a 2009 model, it has offered decent interior space, lots of features and a very low base price.

Based on the same platform as the unibody 2011 Grand Cherokee, the new mid-size Durango boasts entirely unique sheetmetal, giving the SUV a sportier demeanour than the Jeep. It's a few inches longer compared to the Cherokee, which is normal since it gets three rows of seats. The base model is equipped with a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 that develops 290 horsepower, while the R/T trim benefits from a 360-horsepower, 5.7-litre HEMI V8.

I don't know how to describe the 2010 Dodge Journey. Really, I have no idea. Nada, zilch. I'm not saying the vehicle isn't worth your hard-earned money; it's just the genre that gives me trouble. Of course, the Journey merely reflects the hot new trend in the auto industry, where car platforms multiply like rabbits and adopt multiple purposes. This particular one embodies the brand's testosterone-infused attitude and styling yet incorporates a versatile, family-friendly layout, making it some sort of crossover van or wagon. Plus, the Journey shares its architecture with a small midsize sedan, the Chrysler Sebring, and therefore delivers car-like driving dynamics.

Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, Quebec -- The Dodge Journey crossover enters 2010 with no radical changes, which is a good thing because it currently outsells every other midsize SUV/CUV in Canada. Of course, you probably know by now that "crossover" is just a euphemism for a modern minivan. The ironic thing is that the Journey actually replaced a minivan, namely the short-wheelbase Dodge Caravan!

Dodge Journey debuted in model-year 2009, as the brand's new compact crossover (based on the Sebring chassis). It's a big seller for Dodge, offering (optional) seven-person seating for not too much money. Dodge intends to keep the winning formula intact for 2010, by not messing with its starting MRSP of $19,995.

Earlier this year, I attended the North American launch of the Dodge Journey, and I must say that I was rather impressed with the company's new priced-right crossover vehicle. The Journey offers itself up as the almost perfect family transportation device and, as I have already indicated, supplies excellent value for money. In fact, I see it as pretty much the modern interpretation of the well loved family minivan.

We had been calling this by it's codename, JC49, for several months, but sources close to the Dodge division have been referring to this new ute as the "Crew". Actually, its name will be Journey. For a "top-secret" vehicle - we've managed to catch this four times since January 2007, all across the United-States!

There's something wrong in this world right now. We were all hyperventilating about minivans in the '80s when Chrysler introduced the Caravan and Voyager twins. We bought as many minivans as Madonna records. Now, 25 years later, they're out of style and have lost much their appeal, although Madonna is still going strong.

When considering a road trip, several things come to mind. Comfortable transportation is obviously a must, as is luggage space. Then of course, if you're taking along the family, you need to make sure that you have plenty of room for everyone. After all, sitting on Aunt Bertha's lap might have been fine when you were a kid on a short trip to the family cottage, but now that you've grown up feasting on Big Mac's at Rotten Ronnie's and she's undergone that hip replacement, it might not be such a smart idea.

The Dodge Journey is a crossover vehicle that offers 5- or 7-passenger seating, and will be available in three trim levels: SE, SXT and R/T. All-wheel drive is optional. There will be three engine choices: a 2.4-liter inline-4 (173 hp and 166 lb-ft of torque), a 2.7-liter V6 (186 hp and 191 lb-ft) as well as a 24-valve, 3.5-liter V6 (235 hp and 232 lb-ft).
