EV Incentive Program: Fisker Karma added to the list in BC

The 2012 Fisker Karma is the latest addition to the growing list of new vehicles available in British Columbia that qualify under the Clean Energy Vehicle (CEV) Point of Sale Incentive Program. The Karma, a battery electric vehicle with extended range, qualifies for a discount of up to $5,000 off the pre-tax sticker price when purchased or leased at a new car dealer in BC.

Like the Chevrolet Volt, the Karma is an extended-range vehicle that relies on 403 hp worth of battery power and a 260-hp gasoline engine that acts as a generator. The Fisker is much more exciting than the Volt, however, and according to autocar.co.uk, Fisker claims having secured 3,000 orders for the car.

No, it's not a joke. After several postponements, Fisker spokesperson Roger Ormisher has announced that production of the Karma was finally launched today at Valmet Automotive's Finnish plant.

Fisker Automotive to Receive Additional $85M

IRVINE, Calif., April 6/ -- Fisker Automotive, Inc., a leading producer of advanced green
technology automobiles, announced today it has entered into definitive agreements to receive an additional
$85 million in venture capital funding for the development and manufacturing of its Karma plug-in hybrid
automobiles. The financing is expected to be completed this month and will be the fourth and largest
investment round since the company's inception in August 2007.

One year after the launch of the Karma Concept, Fisker will unveil the production model at the 2009 NAIAS, in Detroit. The revolutionary Karma becomes the world's first premium sports sedan to use a hybrid powertrain. Performance promises to be outstanding with a 260-horsepower, 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine mated to 22.6-kW lithium-ion battery. Total output exceeds 400 horsepower (408) while accelerations from 0 to 100 km/h are completed in 5.8 seconds.

Fisker to open Engineering and Development Center in Pontiac

Fisker Automotive will open a new Engineering and Development centre in Pontiac, Michigan to employ as many as 200 engineers and designers. Fisker is a green American premium carmaker, and they say their new 34,000 square foot facility will house employees to support the development and production of the Fisker Karma.

Fisker Automotive just announced that the first deliveries of its new American premium hybrid sports car will begin in the last quarter of 2009, contrary to recent allegations made by Tesla Motors. Henrik Fisker, the former BMW designer, introduced the highly anticipated Karma at the North American International Auto Show, in January. The car features cutting-edge plug-in hybrid technology, penned as Q DRIVE and developed by Quantum Technologies exclusively for Fisker Automotive. In 2007, the two companies forged a strategic alliance to launch the world's first plug-in hybrid premium sports sedan.
