When Lexus launched the first IS in 2001, they thought they were stepping up to the plate for a sacrifice bunt. The bases were loaded with the LS, ES and RX and instead of only one run coming in, the IS hit a grand slam, for the company's image.

In an effort to take some distance with Toyota and some customers from BMW and Mercedes, Lexus has redesigned its GS model.

At Lexus, they call it 'The Beast'. Elsewhere, it's known as the 2012 IS F... where the 'F' stands for Fuji Speedway, the world-class Japanese circuit. Just another clue why this variant of the luxury Lexus sedan is aimed squarely at racing enthusiasts - a market share also sought after by the BMW M3, the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG and the Cadillac CTS-V.

The RX 450h is a midsize luxury crossover that features all-wheel drive and hybrid-driven performance. While it failed to achieve its rated fuel economy, it provided a refined driving experience and better-than-average economy for this popular segment.

Appealing to adventurous families everywhere, Lexus is betting that its luxury midsize SUV will seduce likely customers. With its rugged construction, this vehicle can accommodate up to seven adult passengers - that's two more than the Porsche Cayenne. Equipped with a full-time, low range 4WD system as well as Toyota and Lexus' own Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), the GX 460 encourages drivers to veer off the beaten track.

Lexus today unveiled the all-new 2013 ES lineup, including the ES 350 and ES 300h equipped with Lexus Hybrid Drive. Featuring a progressive new design and enhanced handling, the 2013 ES sedan is set to continue as a favourite of luxury car buyers.

Lexus offers Canadian consumers quite a few versions of the IS. There's the rear-wheel-drive IS 250 and IS 350, the all-wheel-drive IS 250 and IS 350 and, finally, the IS 250 C and IS 350 C with a power-retractable hardtop.

For 2013, Lexus is looking to make life tough for the Range Rover, Cadillac Escalade and Navigator with its 8-seat SUV, the LX 570 featuring 4WD. Like its predecessor, the 2013 Lexus LX 570 is powered by a 5.7L, DOHC V8 that puts down 383 hp and 403 lb-ft of torque. Standard equipment includes a 6-speed automatic transmission, an adaptive variable suspension, 20" alloy wheels and ventilated disc brakes.

It's hard to believe we're lapping the famed Laguna Seca raceway in a car whose legacy was established on its ability to provide the ultimate in disconnect between road and driver. Not only that, but it's a hybrid to boot.

To mark the arrival of a new series of models in 2012, Lexus is piggybacking on the popularity of the upcoming Super Bowl XLVI. On February 5th, the luxury automaker will air a new commercial during a major sporting event for the first time, hoping to reach an audience of around 50 million viewers.

After weeks of anticipation, Lexus finally unveiled its new LF-LC concept, which showcases the evolution of the brand's latest design language that started a couple of years ago with the CT 200h.

After teasing us with a teaser image of their new concept, Lexus got scooped by Road & Track and hastily revealed its creation. Ladies and gentlemen, here's the Lexus LF-LC in all its glory!

There was a time when "hybrid" and "sustainable energy" (is anybody else as sick of that buzzword as I am?) would send a shiver of distaste through most enthusiast's souls. But as Dylan said, the "times, they are a-changing'". Even the deep-pocketed are feeling the pinch of soaring fuel costs, and devoted fans of big horsepower are realizing we've got to do something to lessen our impact on the planet.

The SEMA show is a veritable orgy of high-powered machines, but there are also a few stylistic marvels to be found. And few are as eye-catching as Five Axis' superb take on the Lexus GS F.

Lexus revealed the new 2013 GS 350 F SPORT midsize luxury sedan a few days before its official debut at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas.

More and more carmakers feel the necessity to combine sportiness with luxury. BMW does it. Infiniti does it. Mercedes-Benz does it. Hell, even Hyundai does it with their 2012 Genesis sedan. And Lexus does it - at least with its IS and GS sedans.

I feel like I've had a bit of an epiphany of sorts. A few weeks ago we told you that Lexus planned to unveil their all-new GS 350 on August 18th, in conjunction with the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

Surprised? We didn't think so. It would appear as though Lexus will be introducing a Toyota RAV4-based compact hybrid crossover between now and the end of 2012 as a 2013 or 2014 model year.

Last week, Toyota Canada Inc. has announced a voluntary safety campaign on some 1,505 Highlander Hybrid and 1,476 Lexus RX 400h units. A recall notice was registered in Transport Canada's database on June 29th.

These are stressful times. Severely taxing even. If cancer rates, gas prices and unrest in many parts of the world weren't enough, according to some scriptures, we just made it through the "End of the world" at the end of last May. Let's not start on December 2012...

2011 has gotten off to a very rocky start for Toyota, who was just forced to recall 1.7 million vehicles around the world nearly one year later to the day of a similar episode that had seriously undermined the automaker's credibility in the eyes of the public.

Mirror, a British online tabloid, has published the results of a study on actual vs. advertized fuel efficiency. According to the site, green cars are 25% less fuel efficient than what the automakers promise, which is rather surprising.

Long after all the good points of the Lexus GX 460 are forgotten, it will be remembered as the first Lexus to have a Consumer Reports "Don't Buy" recommendation put on it. Lexus even stopped delivery of ordered units to upgrade the stability control program, which is what caused the concern of Consumer Reports. Once the upgrade was done, the "Don't Buy" Recommendation was lifted and now Lexus sent me one to try it out.

Each instrument has a tiny lever. An Ultrasonic Blue 2011 Lexus IS sport sedan revs its engine, wheels spinning as it roars to life to debut its musical prowess.

The moment drivers get behind the wheel of the new CT 200h, there will be no mistaking the sporty character of Lexus's debut model in the luxury small car market. Great attention has been paid to perfecting the ideal driving position, with seat design and location, steering wheel position and even the angle of the pedals calculated for the best possible results.

The current trend of power-retractable hardtop convertibles has its advantages and its inconveniences. The advantage is that you can enjoy a year-round, better-insulated and more durable convertible, but on the other hand, that clamshell top flips, folds and sandwiches itself in the trunk, cutting in on available space.

The popular IS series enjoys a fresh look this year, with updated styling cues and new options packages that add more performance and luxury across the IS series. Revised front and rear styling details sharpen all IS models for 2011. In addition, the IS sedans feature minor interior trim changes.

What is a luxury car to you? You might immediately think that luxury is what BMW or Mercedes-Benz sells, which is good. But sometimes, luxury doesn't always have to be married with sportiness. There are some people out there who want a quality-crafted car without a sport suspension or scalpel-like steering, and they're not all retired.

We pitted, for the Hell of it and because we could, three of this week's press cars with 6-cylinder engine. Namely, a 2010 Lexus IS 350C, a 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster and a 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S.

Toyota Canada Inc. today filed a Voluntary Safety Campaign with Transport Canada to recall 2010 model year Lexus HS 250h vehicles to address a compliance issue with Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 301.

As part of its annual compliance testing program, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently conducted a test of the 2010 model year HS 250h. The test involved striking the vehicle with a deformable barrier from the rear at approximately 80 km/h. The vehicle is struck by a moving deformable barrier with a 70 per cent overlap. As part of the test, the vehicle was then rotated on its longitudinal axis incrementally to each successive increment of 90 degrees. During the rotation, the vehicle exhibited fuel spillage that exceeded the requirement in the standard.

During vehicle development, Lexus tested the HS 250h using the same protocol and found the vehicles to comply fully with CMVSS 301. Lexus is currently working to identify the reason for the different test results and the cause of this noncompliance.

At the present time, Lexus has not identified a remedy to address this

It's a dramatic moment. In an ultra-modern audio studio, a Pearl White Lexus LFA supercar faces its challenger: a lone crystal champagne flute on a pedestal alongside a sleek amplifier. The vehicle's keyless ignition is engaged, and its rear wheels start spinning on a dynamometer. The engine roars louder and louder, the speedometer clicks past 150, 160, 170 mph. That's when the glass quivers and shimmies until - kshhh! - the flute shatters in gorgeous slow motion.

Lexus Canada announced it will conduct a voluntary safety recall on approximately 140 Lexus late 2009 and certain 2010 model year LS vehicles in Canada equipped with Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) to address a temporary steering wheel off-center condition that may develop under a specific driving maneuver - it will not occur during normal driving conditions.
