Click... Click... Click... The noise becomes louder and scarier, street corner after street corner. There's no denying it anymore : One of the constant velocity (CV) joints is about to fail. The wonderful thing about constant velocity joints is that, under normal driving conditions, their breaking point is fairly easy to anticipate.

Technically similar to a diesel engine's injection, direct gasoline injection technology promises an improvement in fuel efficiency as well as a reduction in emissions. For any gasoline engine to operate properly, it needs the right combination of air and fuel for combustion. The ideal mixture is 14.8 grams of air for each gram of fuel.

GM confirms America will produce engine for Volt, Cruze

An existing engine plant in the U.S. will house production of an upcoming new 1.4 liter four-cylinder engine family. Slated for the use in the upcoming Volt and Cruze models, GM officials say that the new engine will begin production in Michigan at the end of next year.

GM reassigns High Performance Vehicle Operations team

GM is citing a more 'refined focus' on their core products as the reason for temporarily reassigning their High Performance Vehicle Operations (HPVO) team. The team is made up of about 60 engineers based out of GM's Warren Tech Centre. Vehicles under the HPVO umbrella included the V-Series Cadillacs, and the SS variants of both the Chevrolet Cobalt and Chevrolet HHR.

Lincoln has really updated its full-size SUV. The amount of optional equipment has been reduced, those features now included in the standard package. A few minor changes have earned the Navigator higher marks with the EPA. Standard equipment now includes cooled and heated front seats and heated second-row seats, while the third row can still be retracted at the touch of a button.

Follow the history of the automatic transmission, and you'll find that in applications where three speeds once sufficed, five and six speed gearboxes are becoming the new standard. Volkswagen group has upped the ante one step further, announcing the availability of a new seven-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). It's now available on selected models in Europe including the Golf and Golf Plus with the 1.4 TSI engine and 1.9 TDI engine.
