2012 Lincoln Navigator Review
Friday, April 27, 2012
Harrison Ford? What the hell does he have to do with the Lincoln Navigator? I'll get to that in a bit. First, let me express how stoked I was when I found out I was going to be driving a Lincoln Navigator for a week. I was at the launch of the current generation Ford Expedition back in July of 2006 and I clearly recall liking the big galoot.

2006-2007 MAZDASPEED6 Pre-Owned
Saturday, September 10, 2011
Are you a Canadian driver? Do you bravely hit the roads in winter rather than quivering inside near a heat source, cringing at the thought of low-traction driving conditions? Would you rather rip donuts in the Costco parking lot after it closes than actually shop there? If you answered 'yes' to the first two questions, chances are you need a MAZDASPEED6.

2006-2009 Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ Pre-Owned
Saturday, May 28, 2011
Debuted in 2005, Lincoln's new-age entry-level model was called the Zephyr for a single year before being rebadged as the MKZ. With available AWD and standard V6 power, this Fusion-based sedan was aimed at other entry-luxury machinery like the Toyota Avalon and Cadillac CTS. Enthusiasts loathed the loss of the rear-drive, optionally V8-powered LS to this new front-drive sedan, though updated styling and features helped it hold its own in the market.

2000-2006 BMW X5 Pre-Owned
Saturday, June 26, 2010
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that where used vehicles are concerned, high-end, few-year-old German products tend to appeal more heavily on the bases of styling and driving enjoyment than those of bottom-line pricing and fuel efficiency. Despite expensive repair parts and a reputation for fussy electronics, a 5 or 10-year old BMW, Audi or Mercedes Benz is often a machine with dynamic pros that outweigh any reliability cons.

2001-2006 Mazda Tribute Pre-Owned

Zoom-zoom, and all that. When it launched in 2001 alongside the Escape, it was bigger than a CRV or a Rav4, as well as somewhat more rugged looking as well.

2008 Acura TSX Navi Review

It has the size of a Mercedes-Benz C300, a more powerful engine than the BMW 323i and a stylishly understated appearance that can rival the Audi A4. Yet, the Acura TSX has never enjoyed the same kind of success as these three German rivals. Introduced at the 2003 NAIAS in Detroit, the TSX sedan has been given very different roles in Canada and the U.S. Out here, it aimed to bridge the gap between the former EL (now called CSX) and the larger TL. Across the border, however, the absence of the EL made the TSX Acura's new entry-level model.

2006 smart fortwo Road Test
Tuesday, July 31, 2007
You know, it constantly amazes me the way auto manufacturers build up their vehicles in people's minds, and give them grandiose nameplates which perhaps reflect the hopes and dreams of the company, rather than the actual vehicles to which they're fitted. The smart company is slightly different, and tends to stick to the obvious. I've just completed a week in a smart fortwo which, of course, is a rather intelligent form of transportation for two people.

2006 Mini Cooper S JCW Competition Package Road Test

The JCW Competition Package takes inspiration from the classic Mini's historic win at the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally and the JCW-equipped MINI Cooper S that successfully defended its Open Division title at this year's Targa Newfoundland driven by automotive journalist Jim Kenzie with rally veteran Brian Bourbonniere as navigator.

2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Road Test
Thursday, November 30, 2006
The Range Rover brand is an interesting one for many reasons. Historically, this brand has, and still does, create some of the most capable off-roading trucks ever conceived. Likewise, it is also recognized for being one of the most luxurious and desirable SUVs on the planet. Should you, for some odd reason, not be convinced of this, watch one episode of "Cribs" on MTV. Every celebrity that is featured has at least one Range Rover in their garage. The question is then: How did this car maker go from being covered in mud to be being draped in bling?

2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie Mega Cab Road Test
Sunday, December 03, 2006
Whether or not you consider yourself a "truck guy or gal," you've got to love the slow growl of a Cummins turbo-diesel; it is the quintessential truck sound. In fact, the low-resonance harmonics generated by my tester when under load led me to believe I had the throttle of a diesel locomotive in hand. Whether I did or not, I'm certain I had its pulling power under foot. Displacing 5.9 litres (360 cu in), the big Cummins inline-6 is capable of mustering-up 610 foot-pounds of torque at only 1,600 rpm, enough grunt I suspect to pull a loaded coal train through the Rockies. How does a six-cylinder oil burner manufacture so much clout you ask? Well in this case the secret lies in a turbo-charged compression ratio of 17.2:1 combined with 4-valves per cylinder filling and evacuating the six big cylinders with remarkable efficiency. But the Cummins-equipped, 2006 Dodge RAM 2500 Mega Cab isn't all about pulling power; its massive cab size sets numerous Biggest-in-Class standards. In the parlance of Joe Friday- just the facts:

2006 BMW M Roadster Road Test
Monday, December 04, 2006
Ferocious probably best describes the acceleration given to 1,490 kg (3,277 lb) by 330 horsepower- such is the 2006 BMW M-Roadster. This mighty machine is a steroid-driven version of BMW's dramatic looking Z4 Roadster, which in of itself is a strong performer on track and off; however compared to the might of "M," the dashing Z4 Roadster is sedate. In distinguishing the "M" version from its Z4 roots, Bimmer stylists incorporated extra aggression into Bangle's slash and dash body sculpting by cutting larger air inlets into the front fascia and adding a couple of sharp creases to the car's long hood. Some interior detailing, such as an assortment of badges and insignia scattered about the leather-lined cockpit, also express the uniqueness of "M". Of course the only real way to confirm "M" authenticity is to grab the roadster's fat, leather-wrapped steering wheel and twist the key of life.

2006 Chrysler 300C SRT8 Road Test
Wednesday, December 06, 2006
In a world of super-chargers, turbos and variable valve timing, displacement is back baby! For SRT8 applications, Chrysler has upped the cubes and horsepower in their punchy Hemi V8. Percolating just below the gates of insanity, the emboldened Hemi rumbling beneath the broad hood of the discreet, Chrysler 300C SRT8 displaces 6.1 litres (370 cu in) while producing an explosive, 425 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 420 foot-pounds of torque at 4,800 rpm. We don't often see those halcyon numbers these days; and with the price of fuel combined with environmental-related concerns, it's no wonder. Still, within reason, there is a place for these Herculean beasts in the automotive landscape.

2007 Lincoln Navigator First Impressions
Sunday, November 19, 2006
The men and women at Lincoln have been very busy recently- especially in the SUV department where they have launched a brand new crossover SUV titled the MKX and the beautifully restyled and re-engineered Navigator. I had an opportunity recently to experience the much-improved Navigator, which for 2007 comes in two sizes. The standard-length Navigator is a healthy 5,293-mm (208.4 in) from stem to stern. The Navigator L places an additional 379-mm (14.7 in) between the bumpers, resulting in an overall length of 5,672 mm (133.3 in). The extra sheet metal increases cargo volume by a whopping, 705 litres (25 cu ft), giving the "L" a massive maximum stowage capacity of 3,630 litres (128.2 cu ft). That crowns the Navigator L as the big boy on the block- bigger than the Cadillac Escalade ESV!

2006 BMW M5 Road Test
Sunday, November 12, 2006
In a cruel twist of faith, irony and whatever you want to call it, my all-to-brief time with the M5 was plagued with snow and rain of the most unpleasant kind. You see, these special Supercars are only on loan to journalists for 3 days at a time. The first night, it snowed. The M5 tester's mammoth performance tires had seen better days so I dared not take the car out for a literal spin. As I was preparing for two long back-to-back trips out of town in the following weeks, I had no other choice to go shopping and do groceries on the mostly sunny Saturday. On Sunday, I went pumpkin-picking with friends and, even though it rained, I still got to punch it in the morning and in the evening.

2006 Dodge Viper gets a near-$30,000 price drop
Tuesday, October 31, 2006
We recently noticed that the 2006 Viper has received a substantial reduction in price. The Viper SRT10 Roadster's price has plummeted from $127,000 to $98,400. That's a difference of $28,400, or roughly the price of a new Dodge Charger.

There's no doubt about this car; 425 horsepower in a four-door sedan that holds 4 or 5 occupants is like lighting a cigarette with a flamethrower. It's like eating your soup with a shovel. It's like giving your pet a bath with a pressure washer. It's like cutting a piece of paper with a circular saw.

2006 Honda Accord Hybrid Road Test
Wednesday, October 25, 2006
The Accord, Hondas elemental sedan, has for many years been listed as a best buy in its class. It consistently scores top marks and sets the bar for other machines to match, though at first glance it might be difficult to understand why. There are quicker and flashier cars in the same arena. A Nissan Altima is sportier, while a Hyundai Sonata is less expensive. Mazda's 6 is better looking, and the Ford Fusion is more fun to drive. But machines are few and far between that can better the Accords build quality and the peace of mind its customers love.

2006 BMW M Coupe Road Test

Track-day street cars right off the assembly line is a little known segment in North America. Our much-luckier partners across the Pond are well aware of this niche category and are fortunate enough to have a fairly vast selection of cars to choose from. A track-day passenger car is a gifted version or specific model endowed with heightened abilities and components such as brakes and suspension which are more in tune with lapping on a racetrack than commuting to work. In Europe, they have known of the Lotus Elise for quite some time, they also have Caterhams, Cup versions of the Renault Clio and many more.

2006 Dodge Charger SRT8 Road Test
Wednesday, November 08, 2006
Dodge appears to be aiming its Charger SRT8 squarely at the 40+ males, guys like me, who still like to believe that they have a little wild streak left in them. After all, anyone younger would have to be truly into classic cars to recall the original as anything more than a cool looking Matchbox toy. Then, of course, there are the insurance costs. Just mention the SRT logo and you can light up the eyes of the State Farm man as quickly as you can light up the tires on the vehicle.

2006 Ford Mustang GT Convertible Road Test
Tuesday, November 14, 2006
The Ford Mustang has been an icon of American performance since its introduction in 1964. Stunning looks, rear-wheel drive performance, and affordability have been Mustang hallmarks ever since. Another thing which the Mustang can boast about is of being the dream car of many a young boy.

Very few people will be excited to buy a hardcore pickup for work. Indeed, you don't purchase a big heavy-duty truck the same way you do with a Ford Explorer Sport Trac or a Honda Ridgeline, for instance...

I know what the majority of you are thinking. You're saying to yourself that this isn't a real car; it's a joke on wheels. A smart is a parody of the automobile, right? You're thinking that driving a smart is slightly more embarrassing than being seen walking out of the bathroom with toilet paper stuck to your shoe, isn't it?

2006 Hyundai Tiburon Tuscani Road Test
Monday, November 06, 2006
Sports coupes have fallen on hard times. About twenty years ago, a bunch of manufacturers had at least one in their lineup, but not anymore. The Tiburon's rivals are falling one by one, and the latest one is Acura's RSX, which is discontinued for 2007.

The automobile could very well be the greatest social status symbol. It's the most effective way to demonstrate the thickness of one's wallet as well as a taste for luxury, power and the beautiful things in life.

2006 Saab 9-5 SportCombi Road Test

It is tough out there. You have car manufacturers busting themselves up to get your attention by just about any means possible. I was in Dallas not so long ago and I saw the largest mural I have ever seen: It was an ad for the new 2007 Nissan Versa and it literally took up the entire side of a 20-storey building. If the mural did not measure 200 feet square, it was the size of a dime. This is a perfect example of what I am trying to say. Here was a larger-than-life ad for a sub-compact in larger-than-life downtown Texas.

I'm not rich, and I'll probably never be. But I've always told myself that even if I was, I would never buy myself a $100,000 car. Personally, I imagine purchasing several vehicles at the same time: one for performance, one for luxury, and one for off-roading.

Gone is the dash-mounted flower vase in the latest version of Volkswagen's Bug. Gone too is much of its cutesiness, replaced by a notable degree of sportiness intended to broaden the Beetle's target market by attracting male attention.
