2011 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited Review
Wednesday, November 30, 2011
The fourth and current-generation Outback debuted for model year 2010. It still uses the same "wagon with cheese" recipe it originally debuted with back in 1995, when it famously showed the world just how useful could be a wagon, if you simply gave it all-wheel drive and some decent ground clearance.

2005-2009 Subaru Outback Pre-owned
Saturday, October 01, 2011
The Outback was Subaru's crossover entry to the market occupied by machines like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Ford Escape. A more car-like, wagon-oriented crossover, it existed alongside the 'truckier' Subaru Forester, offering up the utility of a station wagon, the ground clearance of a small SUV and the driving dynamics of a sedan.

Small changes coming to the 2011 Subaru Outback
Thursday, June 17, 2010
The current generation of Subaru Outback was an instant hit with both consumers and critics, winning a diverse range of accolades including Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, Best New Wagon and Best-in-Class honours from Kiplinger's Personal Finance, a Best Retained Value award from Canadian Black Book in the mid-size category, and the Interior of the Year award (popular-priced car under $29K) from Ward's Automotive Group.

2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited Review
Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Subaru's Outback line firmly established its reputation a while ago. Now dissociated from the Legacy models, the successful Outback has garnered quite a following in the country. In fact, the Outback is so popular that the head honchos over at Subaru decided to drop the simple wagon version of the Legacy, so limited were its sales over the past few years. To say that the Outback fills the needs of many Canadian consumers is an understatement.

2010 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited Review
Thursday, December 31, 2009
Once upon a time in the land of the rising sun, there was a car named Subaru Outback. Long considered as a wagon, its dream was to get bigger than other models of its kind and as powerful as the larger SUVs on the road. The car ballooned and became increasingly heavy, with new power tools to complete the package.

2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Sport Review
Wednesday, November 25, 2009
According to Subaru, Outback owners don't think much about the category their vehicles fall into. Drivers of the jacked-up, Japanese hauler see their machines not as their 'crossover' or 'wagon'--but more simply as 'their Outback'. To many, it's little more than a transportation-based appliance.

Subaru Canada is juggling with success!
Friday, August 07, 2009
Subaru Canada executives have a major problem: they must learn how to deal with success! The near-complete overhaul of the lineup since 2008, led by the redesigned Impreza and Forester, has obviously played a huge part in that success. Therefore, it should make absolute sense that the introduction of two other revamped models, the Legacy and Outback, will keep the party going.

What's a PZEV?
Sunday, June 29, 2008
The automotive world is constantly swirling with abbreviations that confuse, baffle and frustrate shoppers and enthusiasts alike. Now, there's another one on the scene- this one intended for quick recognition by new car shoppers with a higher-than-average concern for the atmosphere. The abbreviation is 'PZEV', which stands for Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle. You can call it "pee-zev" if you like.

2009 Subaru Outback PZEV Review
Monday, June 23, 2008
Subaru is firmly committed to environmental protection. In May of 2004, the Japanese automaker inaugurated the first assembly plant in the U.S. that creates zero landfill material during the production process. However, Subaru had yet to offer environmentally-friendly powertrains in North America. Things are about to change with the alternative PZEV system (Partial Zero Emission Vehicle). It's not a hybrid but an advanced combustion technology.

First of all, two new models will join the lineup for 2009: the Legacy PZEV and 3.0R. Available in sedan and wagon variants, the PZEV will become the new entry-level model, starting at only $26,995. At that price, buyers get a comprehensive list of features: 5-speed manual transmission, side and side-curtain airbags, active front head restraints, cruise control, power mirrors, door locks and windows, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel and heated front seats with power adjustments for the driver. In addition, SIRIUS satellite radio and keyless entry will now be part of the standard equipment.

Subaru announces pricing for PZEV models
Thursday, April 24, 2008
PZEV stands for Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle, and it's a designation reserved for some of the cleanest cars on the road. PZEV's meet ultra-stringent emissions standards while eliminating evaporative emissions from the fuel system as well. They're viable choices for owners looking to minimize the impact of car ownership- and Subaru's Legacy and Outback models are available in PZEV variants for 2009 at no additional charge. Legacy 2.5i PZEV starts at $28,195, while the Outback PZEV, based on the Outback Touring model, retails for $34,895.

2007 Subaru Outback 3.0R Premier Package Road Test
Sunday, November 26, 2006
Who would've guessed that, when Subaru took a perfectly bland Legacy wagon back in 1995, jacked up the suspension, painted the bumpers and lower body in gray, dropped Crocodile Dundee behind the wheel, and dared calling it a sport-utility vehicle, the Outback would be a success?

2006 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Road Test
Monday, February 20, 2006
Cool wagon. That's the attitude I got from passersby as I drove Subaru's latest compact Outback, a name it's made legendary when fixed to its Legacy wagon-based crossover. Personally, I like its bold new three section grille and aerodynamically efficient headlight design. It gives the car more character in a segment that often lacks originality. And while I thought this ...

2005 Subaru Outback Wagon Road Test
Monday, April 04, 2005
Subaru continues to produce the best selling station wagons and it isn't hard to understand why as they manufacture a solid product eager to please and, when equipped with the turbocharged engine, able to salve any wounds a bad day may have opened with just a touch of the accelerator. Do we like the Subaru wagons? You bet. However, the cost of some models moves them into near luxury territory and can induce sticker shock. For example, our 2.5 XT Limited Wagon listed for $31,270 US and that wasn't anywhere near their top of the line vehicle.

2005 Subaru Outback XT
Tuesday, December 28, 2004
In 1996, the Subaru Outback first came to North America. It was one of the first cars to be considered a crossover vehicle, meaning that it incorporated styling cues from different categories of cars and trucks into one product. The Outback was a logical upscale step for the maker of robust AWD station wagons. These cars were purchased by people that wanted utility and traction on all four wheels without buying into the SUV craze. The proof that there was a strong market for the Outback wagons was that the original version sold like hotcakes. This car put Subaru back on the map where it belonged.

2005 Subaru Outback Road Test
Wednesday, September 29, 2004
Where's the snow? That's what I wanted to know when I picked up the all-new 2005 Subaru Outback for a test drive. Checking the forecast, it looked like a road trip to the Fort St. John area was in order, but I didn't have the time nor the inclination to drive north in search of the white fluffy stuff despite my desire to test Subaru's all-weather wagon in its natural element.

OUTBACK H6 SEDAN - SUBARU'S NEW FLAGSHIP
Friday, March 08, 2002
Last year, Subaru gave us a six cylinder version of its legendary flat-four boxer engine and it was a welcome component that gave more life to the maker's beautiful station-wagon, the Outback. But that was the problem. The H6 was only available in the wagon. Not any more since in 2002, it is possible to order the Outback sedan with the H6. This new mill pumps out a serious 212 horsepower, and that is quite enough to carry the 1,547 kilos car around with ease. Unfortunately, it is only available with a four-speed automatic transmission. A five-speed manual tranny would be more convincing here.
