2011 Mercedes-Benz R 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC Review
Friday, November 25, 2011
Most people think of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class as a minivan, but not Mercedes-Benz. The automaker calls it an SUV, but one that "defies the rigid definition of its category."

After a world premiere at the New York International Auto Show in March this year and the positive feedback received there, Mercedes-Benz is convinced that it is on the right track with the new-generation R-Class. A completely redesigned front section in particular enhances the overall look of this model, with styling cues taken from Mercedes-Benz saloon and SUV models.

2009 Mercedes-Benz R320 BlueTEC First Impressions
Monday, July 07, 2008
The folks at Mercedes-Benz like to call the R-Class a sport utility vehicle. Yet, no matter how I look at it, I can't find anything SUV-like about this vehicle. It shares a lot more similarities with the big family wagons that used to be so popular many years ago. This confusion of body styles is usually summed up with the now-famous "crossover" label. And for 2009, we're talking about a clean crossover: similar to the GL and ML, the R-Class will indeed be available with BlueTEC, an all-new generation of clean diesel engines.

2008 Mercedes-Benz R320 CDI Review
Monday, May 19, 2008
When I first heard that I was getting the R320 CDI to review, I wasn't overly enthusiastic to be honest. You see, from the first time that I saw the R Series, it wasn't exactly love at first sight for me. For that reason, I hadn't taken much interest in the vehicle. So when I learned that a week long tester had been organized for me, it was a bit like going on a blind date!

2007 Mercedes-Benz R320 CDI 4MATIC Road Test
Wednesday, June 13, 2007
With the addition of a new diesel engine, this AWD crossover proves to be more efficient and convenient than ever. But is it a car or a truck? Well, the R320 is equally one and the other. While most people call it a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) and Mercedes defines it as a "sports tourer", I rather felt like I was driving a large wagon. The R320 might pass for a car if it were not for the fact that you have to climb to get on board.

2007 Mercedes-Benz R320 CDI First Impressions
Wednesday, February 07, 2007
Lake Placid, NY - I've said it before and I'll say it again: "If you have to drive a minivan, the Mercedes-Benz R-Class is the minivan to drive." Of course, the manufacturer won't appreciate the R being called a "minivan" - they prefer the term "sports tourer" - but when you strip away all the branding, this is a prototypical people mover.

2006 Mercedes-Benz R 350 Road Test
Thursday, August 31, 2006
Always with the intent to please, car buyers are faced with a barrage of new cars in new segments. Every manufacturer wants a larger piece of the market-share pie. The trick to doing so is by offering a seemingly endless variety of models. Even niche builders such as Mercedes-Benz has jumped on the bus. Where they used to be satisfied with sedans, wagon and an Army truck, they now have 14 distinct models including 3 SUVs and 2 crossovers. One of the newest additions to the Benz family tree is the R-Class.

2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Road Test
Friday, February 24, 2006
Some time ago I was flying across the country in business class, something I do as often as I can, I found myself sitting beside the president of a major financial company. When he found out what I do, which normally happens when I pull out a press kit and begin punching out a news story, preview or road test, he asked me, "I normally only drive BMWs, but I just bought a minivan. Guess which one I bought." I knew immediately, and answered "A Honda

Gone is the dash-mounted flower vase in the latest version of Volkswagen's Bug. Gone too is much of its cutesiness, replaced by a notable degree of sportiness intended to broaden the Beetle's target market by attracting male attention.
