Recall for the 2007 Volvo S80
Wednesday, July 27, 2011
Transport Canada has issued a recall on the 2007 Volvo S80 regarding its steering system. On certain vehicles, the power steering reservoir return hose could have been incorrectly installed during assembly, causing it to be pinched or kinked. Because of this, the pressure in hose might cause it to burst, followed by a loss of power assist.

2010 Volvo S80 Preview
Sunday, January 10, 2010
The S80 continues to represent the best that Volvo has to offer in the way of comfort and luxury. For 2010 this spacious flagship sedan has received some minor styling enhancements meant to freshen its appearance without altering its distinctiveness. As well for 2010, Volvo has unscrambled the option list by offering a simplified S80 product and content line-up.

2008 Volvo S80 3.2 AWD Review
Friday, April 25, 2008
The S80 is Volvo's flagship sedan. It's a spacious premium-level four-door meant to compete with the likes of Audi's A6 and BMW's 5-Series to name just two. As a general observation, the Swede exhibits a softer, slightly more amiable personality than its German counterparts, which may appeal to a broader audience. Although a 311 horsepower V8 engine is available, my tester was powered by the S80's base engine, a 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder powerplant capable of producing 235 horsepower @ 6,200 rpm and 236 pound-feet of torque @ 3,200 rpm. As with all Canadian-sold 2008 S80s, my unit featured the traction of all-wheel-drive (AWD).

2008 Volvo S80 3.2 AWD Review
Saturday, June 28, 2008
When I ask someone to spontaneously name luxury car brands, I invariably get answered BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac. Sometimes, people will name Audi, Lexus or Lincoln, but rarely will someone think of Volvo. And yet the Swedish automaker has being selling cars since 1927. The S80 is the biggest of the Volvo sedan line-up, which also includes the S40 and the S60.

Volvo Winter Testing Part 3 - tested in the S80
Thursday, February 07, 2008
Riksgränsen, Sweden. For 2009, Volvo will introduce a new high-performance engine codenamed "T6". This inline 6-cylinder turbocharged powerplant will be available with the XC70 wagon. In Europe, it currently powers the new S80 sedan, which we put to the test over the last few days. The 3.0L T6 benefits from a turbocharger which adds 46 horsepower to the base engine's output. Torque is rated at 295 lb-ft at only 1,500 rpm for improved takeoffs. The resulting accelerations remain very linear and make for smooth driving dynamics.

Volvo Winter Testing Part 1 - driving the S80
Tuesday, February 05, 2008
Riksgränsen, Sweden. About 30 journalists from Canada, Spain and Italy are gathered in Riksgränsen, Sweden -- in the heart of Eastern Laponia -- to take part in winter tests. The weather is beautiful... and cold: minus 23 degrees Celcius. We're approximately 160 kilometers north of the North Pole (in latitude).

New T6 added to the S80 line
Thursday, May 10, 2007
The T6 is a familiar name in the S80 line up as it used to be the big engine on the previous S80. For the new car, unveiled late last year as a 2007, the T6 will displace 3.0L and will develop 285hp and 295 lb/ft of torque.

2007 Volvo S80 V8 AWD Road Test
Thursday, July 05, 2007
The 2007 Volvo S80 is the culmination of everything that the Swedish company has put into motion since the original S80 arrived in 1998. With the introduction of every new model since then, the brand shed its boxy look in favour of dynamism and sleek and elegant lines. The new S80 adds the girth and road presence, enough to properly crown it as the flagship that it is.

2007 Volvo S80 V8 AWD Road Test
Monday, March 12, 2007
If you type "l-u-x-u-r-y s-e-d-a-n" into your car zealot database and Volvo's S80 doesn't appear anywhere near the top of your list, hey, don't feel bad. When the original S80 was launched in 1999, it may have been considered revolutionary by initiating the current Volvo design language, in fact, its looks startled. Here was a Volvo that didn't look like the box it came in.

The Power of Technology (Part I)
Saturday, March 03, 2007
The trickle-down effect in technology provides benefit to many industries, most notably the auto industry; we can thank NASA and the military for much of that. Using Volvo's flagship V8-powered S80 as our test subject, let's examine some of the latest technology enhancing safety and convenience behind the wheel.

2007 Volvo S80 First Impressions
Thursday, November 16, 2006
Las Vegas, NV - It's fitting that the North American launch for the 2007 Volvo S80 should take place in the city that's home away from home to more gamblers per square mile than anywhere else in the world. After all, the release of any new car is, in and of itself, a calculated risk.

2004 Volvo S80 AWD Road Test
Monday, March 08, 2004
Before talking road test details, I just need to say that I find Volvo's interiors to be among the most attractive and logically laid-out of any mass produced vehicle, regardless of pedigree or price. In the recently updated S80, form and function come together like peanut butter and toast, or bacon and eggs - it's just that good.

2004 Volvo S80 2.5T AWD Overview
Monday, November 10, 2003
It's hardly a myth that the S80 changed the face of Volvo as the world knew it, boldly shedding the brand's boxy image. Earlier this year Volvo updated its flagship model, adding technology and styling enhancements, as well as an all-wheel drive system borrowed from the smaller S60 and V70. Let's take a closer look to see if this Nordic company's updated S80 2.5T AWD is ready to take on the competition.

2002 Volvo S80 Road Test
Thursday, September 19, 2002
Volvo's flagship S80 is the oldest of the current crop of curvaceous Swedes, having been introduced way back in 1998. Still, with its fifth year getting underway it hardly looks dated. But under the lithe lines is the old girl fresh enough to take on a strong line-up of midsize sport/luxury competitors? Its base 2.9-L inline 6-cylinder is smooth while not overly powerful. At 197 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque it'll accelerate the 1,584 kg (3,682 lb) sedan adequately, but hardly soul stirring. But apples to apples, or European sport sedans to European sport sedans, it's not too bad. BMW's 1,565 kg (3,450 lb) 525 makes only 184-hp and 175 lb-ft of torque while costing $805 dollars more. Hmmm, something to think about isn't it. What about Mercedes-Benz? At 215-hp and 221 lb-ft of torque the E320 is definitely more powerful and lighter at 1,615 kg (3,561 lb), but the prestigious sedan starts a significant $13,955 higher. Again, the comparatively light 1,621 kg (3,573 lb) Jaguar S-Type costs quite a bit more than the Volvo, $5,555 more to be exact, but at least its base engine electrifies with 240-hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. The only premium competitor that comes close to trumping the Volvo for power and price is the heaviest of the lot at 1,710 kg (3,770 lbs). The Audi's A6 costs $160 less and produces a quantifiably stronger 220-hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. But I almost forgot about fellow Swede Saab, weighing in at a sprightly 1,565 kg (3,450 lbs) while offering a turbocharged 4-cylinder with 185 hp and 194 lb-ft of torque for only $41,500. Now that's hard to beat, at least on paper.
