2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Review
Thursday, October 13, 2011
he hybrid family sedan market is a challenging, low-volume segment that's seen the demise of hybridized cars like the Honda Accord Hybrid and Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid after just a few model years. After 2011, the Nissan Altima Hybrid is joining the great big hybrid car highway in the sky, too.

2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Limited Review
Thursday, May 19, 2011
The affordable mid-size family sedan hasn't changed except for the fact that it has been completely reinvented. Consider for a moment the challenge that Hyundai faced a few years ago when they sat down planning the next Sonata. Not only had they become brand-conscious, but competition in the huge segment had never been so strong.

2011 Hyundai Sonata GL Review
Friday, January 28, 2011
At first sight, my "victim" of the week was a sterling example of an innocuous sedan. An entry-level, mid-size number designed for mass distribution like so many others. In fact, its crude plastic hubcaps did a poor job of camouflaging the black steel wheels confirming its low-end status. There I was, dismayed at the thought of a week spent driving a colourless, flavourless vehicle, inside and out. Ho hum, indeed.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid First Impressions
Wednesday, October 20, 2010
Torrey Pines, California -- Sometimes it's better not to be first. Just ask anybody who has had to jump out of a WW II foxhole. Hyundai's late entry into the North American midsize hybrid market, with its just-released 2011 Hyundai Sonata, allowed it to see how the early combatants fared, and allowed it to utilize the latest and greatest battery technology.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Review
Sunday, June 12, 2011
Smart is in--that's Hyundai's tag line,
and it's clearly reflected in their all-new Sonata. The Sonata is a mid-size front-wheel-drive sedan that seats five adults in surprising comfort--well four at least. The middle hump in the rear isn't going to win accolades, and neither will the small'ish trunk pass-thru, which failed to adequately accommodate my road bike.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited Review
Sunday, June 20, 2010
The always-commendable, value-packed Hyundai Sonata has never been flashy or spectacular. Seriously, this Korean midsize sedan's conservative styling and lack of distinctive qualities used to make it an outcast. With fast-growing resources and promising advancements, though, the automaker was able to turn things around and deliver a killer blow in the form of the next-generation 2011 Hyundai Sonata.

What makes a car Canadian?

Some people claim they can tell whether a car is male or female. My neighbour, for instance, says that the Miata and New Beetle are strictly women's' cars, while the Challenger and Dodge Ram are naturally designed for men.

Monday, May 31, 2010
Social media being what it is, we, at Auto123.com, posted some pictures and comments about our upcoming comparison road test on our Facebook page (Auto123.com). We listed the cars slated for evaluation and shortly afterwards, comments came pouring in, asking why this car and that car were not included in the test. First, we can't test them all. Second, we limit ourselves to a segment and third, we try and have them carry similar powertrains and levels of kit.

2009 Hyundai Sonata V6 Limited Review (video)
Friday, November 21, 2008
We can be as open-minded and enthusiastic as we like, older car aficionados still remember the trials and tribulations of Korean manufacturer Hyundai's first arrival in the Americas: the infamous but no less popular Pony topping the list of our grievances. This no doubt accounts for the fact that when we're thinking of buying a new car, the name Hyundai doesn't come spontaneously to mind. Neither does Kia, for that matter.

Warm out of the oven, the '09 Sonata exhibits revised front and rear fascias along with a revamped interior. 2009 Hyundai Sonata GL Review
Monday, August 04, 2008
With every generation, Hyundai gives new life to the Sonata by performing a substantial mid-cycle update. This time, however, the improvements are subtle; yet, they manage to enhance the quality of this midsize sedan. Truth is, in its quest to become the world's fifth-largest automaker, the Korean manufacturer positively eliminated or mitigated most of the irritants of the Sonata.

2009 Hyundai Sonata First Impressions

"With a more refined Sonata, we're confident to attract an even larger number of customers," says John Vernile, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Hyundai Auto Canada.

2008 Hyundai Sonata Limited Review
Sunday, April 13, 2008
Back in 1987, I knew a family that owned a Stellar. Remember that car? It's the first sedan that the Korean manufacturer sold in Canada. I was only 11 at the time, but I still remember one thing: that car had a lot of pieces missing. There were missing door lock pulls, absent or broken plastic trim, and a general lack of build quality. The Pony was no better.

2007 Hyundai Sonata GLS Review
Saturday, December 01, 2007
When Korean automaker Hyundai dives into a new market segment, the process might be long but the goal is usually achieved. That's exactly what happened in the mid-size sedan market, which Hyundai had initially ventured into with a rather ill-designed Sonata. But two years ago, the model was redesigned from the ground up. The result looked very sharp -- and still does today. The new Sonata is a clear step ahead of many competitors and proves to be a serious threat to the Japanese queens.

Hyundai Auto Canada offers much-needed relief for those planning to hit the open road by offering Canada's most fuel-efficient full-size sedan - the 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The Sonata's outstanding fuel economy has been recognized by Natural Resources Canada with its annual EnerGuide Award which proclaimed the 2006 Sonata GL the most fuel-efficient full-size sedan on the Canadian market.

2006 Hyundai Sonata (Video Clip)
Friday, October 28, 2005
The most hotly contested segment in the automotive world is arguably the midsize / intermediate group. To be more precise, this is the gang of cars that includes the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and the new Ford Fusion. Hyundai has long longed to be part of this elite collection of best selling highly praised automobiles. The first Sonatas arrived in 1989 and could scarcely match the Accords, 626s and Camrys of the day. They certainly have come a very long way since then as they were not the most reliable cars to own nor did they do much to promote the brand.

2006 Hyundai Sonata GL Road Test
Saturday, August 13, 2005
This Saturday morning I went flying in a 1956 Cessna 170B floatplane. It's a noisy, rattly, cramped little aircraft that's older than my parents and about as advanced as a pair of rubber boots. Once the floats lift out of the water though, none of that matters. You feel a push into your seat and the ground keeps disappearing farther and farther behind you until you level off and marvel at the scenery below. This is where the little rattly float-plane is in its "zone". The Cessna is a magical experience- it can go wherever it wants, has no speed limits or signs to obey, and gives you a different perspective on how the world looks.

2006 Hyundai Sonata Road Test
Friday, May 06, 2005
Just how good the upcoming Sonata is came as no surprise to me when I tested it last week in and around the San Francisco area. It seems that everything Hyundai has brought out in recent years has either been leading its respective market segment, for quality, driving dynamics and refinement, or on par with the front runners. I was duly impressed with the current generation Sonata when it was introduced in 2001 as a 2002 model.

2002 Hyundai Sonata Road Test
Thursday, July 18, 2002
Hyundai has been bucking industry trends of downward spiraling sales with new records every month. This has as much to do with the effective marketing of their competitive pricing as it represents the quality of product they are producing. After all, it's one thing to pull people down to the dealership but if they don't like what they came to see, they're going to walk, not drive away. Every car in Hyundai's line up has been significantly improved over the last two years but it was last year's XG 300, Santa Fe and Elantra that began to rival their Japanese competition in design, driving dynamics and quality. The all-new Sonata raises the bar once again.
