I'm not usually a fan of SUVs. But there's always an exception to the rule, and here it's Volkswagen's Tiguan. I have to say, the little ute really does justice to the "sport" in Sport Utility Vehicle - and that's rarely the case in this class.

Wolfsburg - Volkswagen's automatic locking and starting system, "Keyless Entry Start and Exit System (KESSY)", may now also be ordered for the A segment. It offers the driver the highest level of convenience as the transmitter must be carried but not necessarily held in the hand. Golf, Scirocco or Tiguan customers can now order KESSY for an additional charge for 355 euros.

If you are looking at the Tiguan for the first time, it is a bit like the poem by John Godfrey Saxe, The "Six Blind Men of Indostan", who had never been able to check out a whole elephant. They had only been able to touch one part each and had very different opinions of what an elephant was. This created a great controversy amongst the men. The Tiguan is a bit like that. Each combination changes the nature of the vehicle.

HERNDON, Va. -- The Volkswagen Tiguan was rated one of the top small SUVs in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) new Roof Strength safety-test. Roof strength is a key factor in protecting vehicle occupants in a vehicle rollover -- vehicles rated "Good" must have roofs that are more than twice as strong as minimum federal safety standards require.

Volkswagen's latest offering is called the Tiguan and it's now available at Canadian dealerships. As the German automaker's first foray into the compact SUV segment, the Tiguan is available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations. Both are powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. A manual gearbox is only available with the Tiguan FWD, which starts at $27,575.
