2012 BMW X1 xDrive28i Review
Monday, January 16, 2012
BMW recently introduced the world to a compact SAV. And what's that? you ask. It's BMW acronym for "Sport Activity Vehicle." What's a Sport Activity Vehicle? It's whatever you want it to be. Whether you live an active lifestyle or something more mundane, the X1 may be your ideal ride provided your wallet can sustain a $40K hit. If that's the case, there's good reason to read on.

2011 BMW X3 xDrive35i Review
Sunday, September 18, 2011
Sometimes, you can do no wrong. BMW seems to not be able to do any wrong at the moment, except maybe the 550i GT ... we'll call it a "near-miss". Otherwise, BMW is in full product attack-and-launch mode.

2012 BMW X1 xDrive28i Review
Monday, September 05, 2011
Since luxury brands are popular right now, is it safe to assume that any vehicle BMW slaps a propeller badge on will sell like hotcakes? No, it isn't. It all depends on how far you're willing to push the envelope in creating vehicle categories no one really asked for. Case in point: People are probably still scratching their heads trying to figure out what a 5 Series Gran Turismo is.

2012 BMW X1 xDrive28i First Impressions
Thursday, May 26, 2011
Time to add another not-quite-sure-what-segment-it-fits-into-but-it's-still-cool-and-I-think-I-want-one vehicle to the market. Sitting squarely on the heels of its Touring uncles and pulling on the coattails of its older siblings, the brand new 2012 BMW X1 xDrive28i is the Bavarian giant's latest entry into the compact SAV (that would be Sport Activity Vehicle) segment.

2011 Scion xD Review
Sunday, December 26, 2010
If you're under 35, nonconformist, and preferably a trendsetter, you may read on. At least, that's what's insinuated in a Toyota Canada press release dated October 28, describing the target market of the new brand, Scion.

2011 BMW X5 xDrive35i Review
Sunday, October 03, 2010
The weeks go by, but no two are ever quite the same. I know that every Monday morning a new car is waiting for me in the parking lot of the Auto123.com offices for my weekly review. When Michel, my boss, tosses me the keys to a BMW, I know that I inevitably have a great week ahead of me.

2011 Scion xD First Impressions (video)
Tuesday, September 21, 2010
The Scion xD is a cool little sub-compact 5-door that serves as Scion's entry-level ride. It's generously equipped for its MSRP of $17,200, and it's totally customize'able with Toyota's long list of TRD bits and pieces. Without adding any of the dealer-installed components available to personalize one's xD, it's an attractive looking ride that conveys a sense of sportiness in both sight and sound. I appreciate the vehicle's clean lines and attractive proportioning; I also like its slightly brazen exhaust note.

Canada is a vast nation of opportunity and prosperity; it would seem that Toyota has finally figured that out. Later this month, Toyota will be launching its Scion division in Canada. As in the US, Scion will stand on its own, independent of its Toyota parent.

Even the best recipes need occasional modification to adjust for changing times, ingredient costs and tastes. Discreet alterations, not big changes, are ideal when playing with an old favourite. In principle, if the team likes chilli, it's best to try a new spice combination rather than swapping the beef for tofu.

2010 BMW X3 2.8i xDrive Review
Monday, April 12, 2010
BMW is a brand that distinguishes itself with a portfolio of cars and SUVs whose vocation and sporty aspirations are undeniable. But when it comes to personality, BMW vehicles fail to distinguish themselves as much. While they're all unique in their class, overall, when you compare one with another they're pretty much the same. Same style, same cabin, same everything - even the same driving enjoyment.

2009 BMW X5 xDrive35d Review
Sunday, June 07, 2009
Here's a riddle: what has four wheels, sounds like a blender full of cutlery, and spews out more sooty smoke than a tire fire? It's the diesel engine of years gone by! The average North American still equates diesel power to an unrefined, noisy and underpowered driving experience. It's a deserved reputation--as for years, that's just what diesel was like.

2009 BMW X5 xDrive35d Review
Sunday, May 10, 2009
Well, what do you know -- I'm starting to become a true fan of diesel engines. That's right: while I used to criticize their noise and pollution levels just a couple of years ago, I now find them pretty fascinating, especially such pleasant units as the one that powers the 2009 BMW X5 xDrive35d, a wonderfully gifted athlete (with a few irritants, though).

2009 BMW X6 xDrive50i Review (video)
Thursday, March 26, 2009
Nameless at the time, my young brain had whipped up an imaginary vehicle I'd someday own. It was truck-hulky, sportscar-sleek, very high-tech, and so radical looking that my friends would be jealous. Under the hood? A race-car engine, of course.

Merrickville, Ontario - Can you imagine an SUV weighing over two tons that can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds while burning about 9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers? No, I'm not talking about gas-electric spinoffs like the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid or Chrysler Aspen Hybrid. This vehicle uses a different powertrain altogether: a modern twin-turbo diesel. It sports the blue-and-white roundel of BMW and is called X5!

Scion coming to Canada
Monday, October 20, 2008
Yesterday, Toyota announced that models from their youthful and energetic Scion brand will be migrating north to Canada for 2010. The highly-customizable lineup is currently sold in the USA and overseas, and aims to capture a younger buyer than does a typical Toyota model. Toyota says that Scion models forge a fit between "car" and "community", and that they'll be on sale here in 2010.

2008 BMW X6 xDrive 35i Review
Wednesday, September 03, 2008
Just when we were coming to grips with vehicle formats and their associated acronyms, BMW tosses another pigment into the mosaic, and it's a fascinating hue. The X6 is referred to by BMW as a 'Sports Activity Coupe' so add 'SAC' to the varied list of acronyms defining the many iterations of the modern chariot. This SUV-gone-coupe stretches the meaning of each segment while merging their respective attributes to create a standalone class of vehicle not yet replicated by any other manufacturer.

2008 BMW X6 xDrive35i Review
Thursday, May 15, 2008
For a few years now, automakers have been exploring new market segments in order to attract even more people to their showrooms. Crossovers have proven to be quite successful; on the other hand, there are new vehicle types which do not seem to take off. For instance, a couple of years ago, Infiniti managed to juxtapose an SUV with a sports car to create a radically-styled machine; however, very few companies have tried to emulate them due to fears of a failed surgery.

BMW Announces pricing on X6 Sports Activity Coupe

The X6 delivers a commanding ride height, spacious interior accessed by five doors, and two cutting-edge twin-turbo engines. The X6 xDrive35i is motivated by the automakers 3.0 liter inline six engine with direct injection technology and twin turbochargers to deliver a potent 300 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft of torque. The award-winning engine will help deliver 0-60 in about 7 seconds, driving all four wheels through a six-speed automatic.

Gone is the dash-mounted flower vase in the latest version of Volkswagen's Bug. Gone too is much of its cutesiness, replaced by a notable degree of sportiness intended to broaden the Beetle's target market by attracting male attention.
