Two and a half months after having made his ice racing debut in the Andros Trophy, Canadian Jacques Villeneuve clinched his maiden win this past weekend in Lans-en-Vercors behind the wheel of his No. 3 Skoda Fabia.
Villeneuve drove a strong race in the first Elite finale, beating four-time F1 World Champion Alain Prost and ice racing expert Bertrand Balas. In Sunday’s final standings, Villeneuve was therefore classified second behind new series’ champion Jean-Philippe Dayraut but in front of his Skoda teammate, Olivier Panis. “I’m really happy to have won this race. I am also very satisfied to have succeeded my qualifying run, setting two series of three quick laps. It’s not easy at all, and I finally managed to get it right this time,” Villeneuve said in the Skoda France press release.
“I could finally give it all during the finale. I never had real problems during the “true” races in traffic. However, some drivers don’t really enjoyed being passed… They’re convinced that passing someone is a fault! Luckily these guys aren’t racing NASCAR in the U.S.! However, I still find the qualifying format of the Andros Trophy a little bit confusing. The rest is just fantastic: the cars, most of the drivers, the circuits, etc. I look forward to competing the non-championship race at the Stade de France in Paris next month!” 2010-2011 Andros Trophy, final standings: 2. Jean-Philippe Dayraut, 843 pts; 2. Alain Prost, 823 pts; 3. Franck Lagorce, 812; 4. Olivier Panis, 789; 5. Bertrand Balas, 781; 6. Evens Stievenart, 758; 7. Jean-Baptiste Dubourg, 747; 8. Pierre Llorach, 725; 9. Jacques Villeneuve, 703; 10. Benjamin Rivière, 693, etc…
