The 8th round of the DTM championship will be presented this week-end in Oschersleben. Bruno Spengler still leads provisional classification and will do his best to defend his position.
After his championship advance moved up to 16 points after Nürburgring race, Bruno Spengler had to face the return of his team mates after Zandvoort : Gary Paffett won in the Netherlands, and closed up only 9 points behind the Canadian driver, who classified only 7th. Spengler was back at the top in Brands Hatch, where he secured a good second place. Paul Di Resta clinched victory, and moved up to second position in provisional classification, and became Spengler’s closest rival. Paffett stood five points behind the Scot. The three Mercedes drivers are now in contention for the championship. But the Audi drivers Timo Scheider and Mathias Ekström, remained mathematically in chase for the title, even if the Audi looked clearly dominated by the Mercedes this season. But the rivalry inside the Mercedes squad could help Scheider and Ekström. The DTM cars are now on their way to Oschersleben. Last year, Spengler and the whole Mercedes team were not very successful on this circuit. But the Canadian driver remains confident before the 8th round of the season. “Last year, we had a quite difficult race in Oschersleben, told Spengler to auto123.com. I took 6th position after I started from 6th place on the grid, and best Mercedes driver. Audi had dominated the race, but we were 20 kgs heavier by that time, so it’s very difficult to know what will happen this week-end. I expect a very hard race, with almost ten cars that could fight for the win. We made a lot of progresses on this kind of circuit, and we are also able to go fast. Everything is possible, indeed…”
