Auto123.com brings you the exclusive comments of Canadian driver Bruno Spengler, who races for Mercedes-Benz in the DTM Championship. Here’s what he had to say about his performance at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, in Germany.
"Hello again everyone, The DTM race in Oschersleben was no picnic, mainly because of those 20 additional kilos we had to carry during the weekend. Fortunately, I wound up 6th and earned three precious points in the standings. On Thursday, Audi’s Markus Winkelhock and I took part in a series of interviews with German journalists. We toured the cities of Braunschweig and Halle and talked about the upcoming race. This was rather fun, even though traffic was jammed on the autobahns! It allowed me to spend more time with Markus, whom I’ve known since the 2003 Formula 3 Euroseries. We get along quite well. I arrived in Oscherlseben a bit exhausted from this long day. The next day was another "classic Friday" with a number of technical meetings, additional press events and the traditional half-hour warm-up session. With 20 kilograms added to the machine (due to the team’s three consecutive victories), we knew racing in Oschersleben would be a tough challenge, especially since the track features numerous inclined corners where you have to step on the curbs. Here, driving a heavy car is a real handicap. Still, I think we fared pretty well after all… On Saturday morning, we essentially worked on the car in preparation for the race. For two hours, we fine-tuned everything and performed a final check-up. We spent the last 30 minutes preparing for the afternoon qualifying sessions. I personally had fairly decent times considering all the weight I was carrying. I came in 6th, the fastest of any Mercedes-Benz car. I hardly could have done better. The car performed commendably thanks to the awesome work by the crew.
