DTM series title contender Paul di Resta (AMG-Mercedes) was the fastest driver of the day at Hockenheim in preparation for the ultimate round of the German touring car championship.
In the morning session, Audi were up to the pace having set the first sixth fastest time while Canadian Bruno Spengler was the fastest of the Mercedes Benz drivers. This domination was going to continue in the afternoon as Audi look to have locked the four top spots with two minutes remaining until di Resta strung a lap together at the end to go fastest by three tenths of a second. Audi's Martin Tomczyk, who had set the best time earlier in the day finished second in the afternoon ahead of reigning champion Mattias Ekström, while series leader Timo Scheider ended up fourth. Behind Tom Kristensen (Audi) in fifth, the Mercedes of Bruno Spengler, Jamie Green, and the retiring Schneider completed the top eight. Pos Driver Team Time Gap 1. Paul di Resta Mercedes 1:32.783 2.
