Two thirds of the GP3 field has been penalized after ignoring waved yellow flags during the practice session on Friday 23rd July.
The last sector was yellow flagged following the accident of Pablo Sanchez Lopez in the last corner, during Friday free practice session. As the majority of the drivers did improve their time under the yellows, the race direction decided to penalize no less than 22 drivers after Saturday’s qualifying session. Drivers have been dropped to 2, 3, 5 or 7 positions on the starting grid, although most of them explained the track was drying, and they improved although they lift in the last corner. James Jakes initially set the pole position ahead of Canadian driver Robert Wickens. But both drivers are among the 22 penalized drivers, and they lost two positions on the grid. Joseph Newgarten, who was 3rd fastest, inherits pole position ahead of Roberto Mehri.
