French race car constructor ORECA has unveiled its new LMP2 endurance prototype, which will be available to the teams that would like to run it in 2011.
After the team ran its ORECA 01 in the LMP1 category and built the Formula Le Mans prototype cars, Hugues de Chaunac’s team decided to build a totally new prototype for the LMP2 class. The new prototype will fit the rule that limit the cost of the vehicle to 345 000 euros. The car must then be available to every team competing in the series. And the car will be designed to be fitted with most engines available. ORECA will also offer a competition service to the teams fro spare parts and technical assistance at all races of the Le Mans Series and the American Le Mans Series. “ORECA wants to expand its activities as a constructor and we were attracted by the 2011 LM P2 regulations,” said Hugues de Chaunac. “This is why we’re unveiling the ORECA 03 today, which has got Le Mans in its genes! It will also take advantage of the know-how we’ve acquired with the ORECA 01, a prototype that’s both quick and reliable. We demonstrated that on several occasions, in particular in the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours in which it finished fourth overall and in 2009 when it came home in fifth ».
