The new Audi R15 clinched victory for its first race appearance in Le Castellet 8Hours, first round of the Le Mans Series championship.
The ORECA Peugeot 908, that claimed pole position on Saturday, had to stop in the early laps after a rear airjack system problem. The 908 spent nine laps in the pits, and finally crossed the finish lap in position 4, 8 laps behind the leaders. The Aston Martin driven by Adrian Fernandez, Harold Primat and Stefan Mücke clinched second place ahead of Bellichi, Bouillion and Smith’s Rebellion Lola. The Strakka team’s Acura/HPD, that set LMP2 pole position on Saturday, clinched victory in its category, leading the OAK Pescarolo and the RML Lola. The best Formula Le Mans was the one driven by Toulemonde-Zollinger-Zampatti. Richard Lietz and Marc Lieb clinched GT2 win with their Felbemayr Porsche, as pole sitters Gianmaria Bruni and Jaime Melo were forced to retire on their AF Corse Ferrari. The only GT1, the Larbre Saleen, finished 26th overall. The second AF Corse Ferrari, driven by Toni Vilander and former F1 drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Jean Alesi, took third place in GT2. Beachdan Mansell’s Ginetta, driven by Nigel Mansell and sons Greg and Leo, finished 9th in LMP1 category. Le Castellet 8 Hours – Final classification: 1. Capello-McNish (Audi) 266 laps (1st LMP1) 2.
