Team ORECA’s Peugeot 908 set the best performance in qualifyings of the Castellet 8 Hours, first round of the 2010 Le Mans Series, just ahead of the factory Audi.
The best performance of the session was set by Nicolas Lapierre on the 908. The young Frenchman, who will share the wheel with Olivier Panis and Stephane Sarrazin, was quickest than Rinaldo Capello and Alan McNish on the Audi R15 TDi. Fernandez-Primat-Mucke were 3rd quickest on the Aston Martin, ahead of the ORECA prototype driven by Ayari-André-Duval. Nigel, Greg and Leo Mansell set the 7th best performance on their Ginetta. The Acura/HPD easily took LMP2 pole position, more than two seconds quicker than 2009 champion Ginetta ASM. The new Formula Le Mans category was dominated by Edoardo Mortara. The only GT1 is the Larbre Competition Saleen, that set the 26th best performance, just ahead the AF Corse Ferrari of Bruni and Melo, the quickest of the GT2 cars. The second AF Corse car driven by former F1 drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Jean Alesi, and Toni Vilander, was 4th quickest in the GT2 category, 30th overall. 41 cars will run Le Castellet 8 Hours on Monday.
