The World Council of the FIA has approved on Wednesday a move to 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engines from the 2011 season for the World Touring Car Championship.
This move will end the disagreements between the teams that run normally aspirated petrol engines (BMW) and turbo diesel motors (Seat). The new 1.6-litre petrol engines will be the same that will be used in World Rally Championship. The FIA also published the 2010 calendar. There will be no more races in Pau, France, but Zolder and Algarve will be the new destinations for the WTCC championship next year. 2010 WTCC calendar: March, 7th : Curitiba (Brazil), April 11th : Puebla (Mexico), May 16th : Marrakech (Maroc), May 30th : Italy (TBA), June, 20th : Zolder (Belgium), July, 4th : Algarve (Portugal), July 18th : Brands Hatch (GB), August, 1st : Brno (Czech Republic), September, 5th : Oschersleben (Germany), September 19th : Valencia (Spain), October 31st : Okayama (Japan), November 21st : Macao.
