Formula 1 is the world's premier single-seater racing series, and has occupied that position since the creation of a World Championship in 1950.
Ten teams do battle with phenomenal, multi-million dollars budgets and the highest degree of technical development over the Grand Prix season. The World Championship is truly global, with races taking place on several continents. Famous teams such as Ferrari, McLaren and Williams, as well as high-profile manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, Renault and Honda, take part in the highly contested championship. The Formula 1 cars are carbon fibre, single seaters powered by 800-hosepower 2.4-litre, V8 engines that rev up to 19,000 rpm. The brakes are made of carbon fibre, the cars are fitted with front and rear wings, and are shod on treaded Bridgestone tires. An F1 car is capable to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and 0-200 in just 5 seconds. It can each a top speed of 340 kph. Info: http://www.fia.com/ |
