Fernando Alonso was the fastest in qualifying, pleasing the tifosi. On Sunday, he put icing on the cake by winning in front of a full house.
Felipe Massa took third place finish behind Jenson Button making it two in two for Ferrari, on the podium, this week-end. The race could have taken another turn for Massa in the first lap of the race as Lewis Hamilton touched his left rear with his front right tire. The British driver broke the suspension arm of his McLaren and was forced to retire. As a matter of fact, both Ferraris experienced contact in the first turn of the race as Alonso touched Button, letting the Englishman slip in front of him. The ultimate looser of this first few laps however was Mark Webber who fell in eight place by lap 4, right in front of Schumacher who started 12th. Webber would come back to finish sixth. Button and Alonso would fight for first place almost all the way through the race, the Ferrari driver only taking the lead on the 37th lap of 53, when his pit stategy gave him an advantage over the McLaren driver. Alonso crossed the start/finish line in front of Button, Massa, Vettel, Rosberg, Webber and Hulkenberg. Vettel managed to overtake Rosberg in the final laps of the race as Webber did on Hulkenberg. The Red Bull drivers were a tad out of shape in Italy due to engine problems and lack of power. Robert Kubica and Michael Schumacher complete the top-10. Webber still leads the championship ahead of Hamilton (187-182).
