According to news posted Friday on Autosport, Stefan GP’s boss Zoran Stefanovic is said to be close to a contract with former Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve.
The Serbian told Autosport that the Friday morning the engine of the Stefan 01 car was fired up for the first time. The Stefan car is in fact the chassis and engine designed and built by Toyota before the Japanese manufacturer decided to leave Formula 1. Stefanovic said, however, that the team was still working on a tyre supply deal for its first test scheduled at Portimao, Portugal next week. The Serbian indicated that talks with former world champion Jacques Villeneuve are progressing well. "At the moment we have to say that we are very near," he said of drivers. "We are very near to a contract with Jacques Villeneuve, and probably also with another driver as our reserve driver. But the first one which will be with us is Kazuki Nakajima," Stefanovic declared.
