Mark Williams, Head of Vehicle Engineering at McLaren explains in this video the purpose of the team's Mission Control located inside the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Great Britain.
In the quiet environment of this control room, a horde of engineers and specialists follow live what is happening out on the race circuit of the Grand Prix and the McLaren garage. During every second of every lap, data is being fed from the car to the banks of computers in the garage at the race and, via satellite, to Mission Control. Mark Williams and his team of engineers, aerodynamicists and strategists gather all the data and help the other engineers, located at the race circuit take the right decisions. They monitor all the engine, aero, gearbox, suspension and tire parameters and give strategy and set-up suggestions to the team at the race track. Please note that this video was produced in 2009.
