According to well-informed sources there are a lot of things happening these days in the otherwise off-season in IndyCar and some major announcements could be made in the days and week to come.
First and foremost, it seems that Team Penske will let go of Helio Castroneves after all and the team will announce shortly who will replace the Brazilian who is facing serious tax evasion charges. It seems that the list of candidates has been reduced to Justin Wilson, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Will Power; Hunter-Reay having the best chances. Frenchman Romain Dumas, who drove Penske's ALMS Porsche for the past three year and who tested the Indy car, is also a favourite. Robert Doornbos has been in the news lately regarding a possible switch to the IndyCar series and it looks like the Dutchman has signed with Newman-Haas-Lanigan Racing, bringing with him a very important sponsor. Speaking of NHL Racing, it is almost certain that the team is working very hard to find sponsorship to allow Sébastien Bourdais to come back with the team for which he won four championships (2003-2007). KV Racing has reportedly sold one of his seat to Brazilian Mario Moraes. The 20-year-old Moraes drove for Dale Coyne in '08 with mixed results. Last but not least and according to reliable sources, the Philippe family has purchased Marty Roth's equipment and will run sons Nelson and Richard as "Team France" in the 2009 season.
