Conquest Racing team owner Éric Bachelart admitted that motorsport must quickly adapt to the new economy, and for that reason he may be forced to rotate drivers during the 2009 IndyCar series.
In a recent interview posted on indycar.com, Bachelart said "I think we have to change our approach of sponsorship. In today's economy, I think that people are looking for a short-term impact on their business. If we can provide a solution just on short-term impact to the business, then I think we can find sponsorship." So the golden days of long-term sponsorship contracts are probably over. In these difficult times, investors want to see immediate results. "People are careful. As a matter of fact, we're still negotiating right now as we speak," Bachelart explained. "So I'm quite confident that we're going to be there with the car for the whole season. We were a two-car team last year. It's our ambition to stay a two-car team. But we have to be realistic. It's very possible that we might have to share the car between two drivers for the season." It is therefore possible that Brazilian Jaime Camara and Canadian Alex Tagliani (photo) share the driving duties of the sole Conquest Dallara-Honda this season, under different sponsorships.
