Former Chip Ganassi protégé Alex Lloyd is confident that he will be a frontrunner when he returns to the IndyCar Series with Newman/Haas/Lanigan at Homestead this weekend.
The British driver, who won the Indy Lights title back in 2007, has contested the last two Indianapolis 500s but has not been able to find a full-time since. Lloyd, who is replacing veteran driver Oriol Servia in Newman/Haas/Lanigan's second car for Homestead, has tested for the team at the Miami oval recently, and is optimistic that he can run with the Ganassi and Penske drivers as they fight for the title in the deciding race. Ganassi was unable to find funding for a third car to run Lloyd and his Indy appearances - in cars run in collaboration with other teams - were the only IndyCar outings he managed while under Ganassi's wing.
