The IndyCar series Governing Body has decided to allow Rookies and drivers outside the top ten in the championship to take part in an additional practice session at most events this year.
This decision has been made in order to make the field even more competitive and assist teams who have less experienced drivers. So, starting in Long Beach, those drivers outside the Top 10 will get an extra morning session of either 30 or 45 minutes on the first day of each meeting, before the opening full field practice session. That new rule won't apply at the season opener in St. Petersburg and for the Indianapolis 500. Photos: Indianapolis Motor Speedway
