Although Ryan Briscoe had dominated most of the night on the oval of the Texas Speedway, his team-mate at Penske, Helio Castroneves, made an impressive last pit stop to take the victory.
It was the second time in a row that Briscoe found himself pipped in the closing stages as he was in Milwaukee last week. On this occasion Castroneves slipped ahead in the pits. Ganassi's Scott Dixon took third, with Marco Andretti mounting a late charge to take fourth from pole-sitter Dario Franchitti and Danica Patrick. Almost right from the start the race was put under yellow when Graham Rahal spun his Newman/Haas/Lanigan car and collected EJ Viso (HVM) and Milka Duno (Dreyer & Reinbold) on the second lap. Briscoe was so at ease on the track that by half distance he had lapped everyone up to seventh place. Unfortunately for him, a debris caution on lap 151 brought the pack back onto Briscoe's tail During a late stop under caution, Castroneves edged ahead of his team-mate coming out of the pits and the Brazilian took his second victory in the last three races.
