Montreal-based group Octane Racing’ proposal to operate the Edmonton Indy beginning in 2011 has been well-received and the City of Edmonton will negotiate a contract with the group that will retain the IZOD IndyCar Series race weekend for at least three years.
Octane Racing, headed by François Dumontier (photo), is already the organiser of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Canada and the NAPA 200 NASCAR race. The City Council of Edmonton voted in a special session July 21 to accept Octane Racing Group’s proposal, paving the way for the IZOD IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights to continue to compete on the City Centre Airport track. Octane Racing’s director of communication told Auto123.com that while the City Council had accepted the proposal, there were still one or two small issues to be discussed the the deal could be officialised. The Indy Racing League, City of Edmonton and Octane Racing plan to hold a press conference at 2:30 p.m. (local time) Sunday at the track to discuss future plans for the race.
