Penske's Will Power had a field day so far in Alabama after claiming his second consecutive pole position of the season with an overwhelming domination on the Barber Motorsports Park circuit.
Like it has been the case since the beginning of the present season, the Australian also dominated every practice sessions on Friday as well as being the fastest in all three of his segments of power qualifying. Mike Conway (Dreyer & Reinbold) was the second fastest driver on the track and, therefore, will start alongside Power on the front row, making it his best IZOD IndyCar career start ever. Power's teammate, Helio Castroneves will have to start from third having barely lost the second spot after Conway's last ditch effort at the end of the session. Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport), Scott Dixon (Ganassi) and rookie Takumo Sato (KV Racing) complete the starting line-up at the end of the Fast Six session. Drivers who failed to make an impression and participate in the ultimate qualifying session are Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan, Ryan Briscoe, EJ Viso, Justin Wilson and Mario Moraes. Other drivers were eliminated right in the first session, including Ryan Hunter-Reay, Vitor Meira, Danica Patrick, Dan Whelson and Alex Tagliani.
