Max Papis will get a chance to apply his road course skills to the NASCAR Nationwide Series NAPA 200 race in Montreal behind the wheel of the No. 33 Kevin Harvick, Inc Chevrolet.
The Italian-born driver has an impressive resume in sports cars with overal victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona twice (2000 & 2002), Grand-Am Championship in 2004, and two wins in General Motors Corvettes at the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans. “I think it is just an honour to be able to be in this situation and come over and see what KHI has, it proves that all the hard work that I have done so far is worth it,” said Papis of his opportunity with KHI. “The goal we have for me is to go there (Montreal) and do the best that I can. I am very confident that with the equipment that we have here at KHI, that we are going to be out there contending for success.” Papis, a former Indy car regular with three wins in the defunct CART series, has moved to North Carolina to make NASCAR his main pursuit. His Montreal scorecard consists of three races, two starts on the outside pole (2008 and 2007) and one finish of third. In 2007 when Harvick won the inaugural race, Papis earned his career best NASCAR finish of third among the top-three series (Cup, Nationwide and Truck). “We’re excited to have Max in the car,” said team co-owner Kevin Harvick. “He’s got a lot of road-racing experience and we look for a good run in Montreal.” Currently Papis drives the No. 13 GEICO Toyota in the Sprint Cup series for Germain Racing.
