Scott Speed followed up on a twitter tweet by suing his former NASCAR team, Red Bull Racing, for six and one-half million dollars.
According to a report on Speedtv.com, Speed sued in a court in North Carolina in an amount equalling what he would have earned with the team from 2011-2013 as a result of his contract renegotiation prior to his removal. Speed, the last American-born driver in Formula 1 with Toro Rosso came back home to race in the top stock car series, but had limited success. Last year he finished, barely, in the top 40 at the Sprint Cup level. Although he had a strong start this year but his performance fell off and he ranked only 30th. With Kasey Kahne joining the team for 2011 and the expected return of Brian Vickers there was no place for Speed. “I don’t know how to describe how much I think filing a lawsuit, how stupid it is and how ridiculous this is that we’re doing this, but I literally have no other option,” Speed told the US website.
