Gianni Morbidelli won the first-ever Speedcar Series night race at Losail in Qatar on Friday night, heading home Vitantonio Liuzzi. Canadian driver Jacques Villeneuve, the 1997 Formula 1 World Champion finished 5th.
Villeneuve started the race in second spot, alongside his former teammate at Williams F1, German Heinz Harald Frentzen. But Frenzten slowed down the pace seconds before the start, and Villeneuve was forced to declutch, causing him to lose 2 places when the green was waved. "I drove hard but when he arrived to lap some of the back markers, one of them ran into me and spun me around! I fell down to 6th but I quickly recovered. I passed a rival later to finish 5th," Villeneuve told Auto123.com. This result will place Villeneuve 4th on the starting grid for tomorrow's race. Photos: Speedcar Series
