Kyle Busch (Camry No 18) needs quite a few good results if he wants to make the Chase of the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
He came in 15th in points at the Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday evening and by winning the Sharpie 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race, he is now 13th, knocking at the door to get in the select top 12 racers’ club with only two races to go. Though he was able to keep veteran Mark Martin (Chevy No 5 and pole sitter) behind him, he probably was a little deceived that some of the last drivers in the top 12, including Martin, had a good race at the half-mile Bristol track. Greg Biffle (Ford No 16) was one of them and he finished 4th just behind the much improving Marcos Ambrose (Camry no 47). Denny Hamlin (Camry No 11) came in fifth. Matt Kenseth (Ford No 17) was also able to stay in the top 12 (he is 12th) thanks to his 10th place at Bristol. Series point leader Tony Stewart (Chevy No 14) had a very difficult race with electrical problems and ended up 33rd, 11 laps behind. Stewart still leads the championship but Jimmy Johnson (Chevy No 48) is now back in second place with his 8th place finish. Jeff Gordon (Chevy No 24) also had a bad race and finished 23rd sending him back to third place in the championship. Next weekend, the Sprint Cup boys are free, leaving all the p lace to the Nationwide guys in Montréal. T he Sprint Cup championship resumes in Atlanta on Sunday evening of September 6. Photos: NASCAR
