Korean car manufacturer Hyundai and Rhys Millen Racing have unveiled digital images the mighty RMR Hyundai Genesis PM580 race car that they will enter in the Unlimited Class of the 2010 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado Springs.
The 156 turns, 12.42-mile Pikes Peak hill climb is one of the last bastions of truly 'Unlimited' racing in the world, with teams being given freedom to create any kind of race car they want to conquer the mountain without restrictions on tires, weight and horsepower. Rhys Millen Racing is fabricating a car that looks very similar to a Grand-Am series’ Daytona Prototype. With a target weight of 1,850 pounds (841 kilos), the “Genesis” will be powered by a Hyundai Lambda turbocharged 3.8-liter, V6 engine that has been increased to 4.1-liters and which is expected to produce 750 horses. To increase the power from 675 to 750bhp, the V6 has been equipped with a HKS T04Z turbocharger, a bar and plate intercooler and custom RMR stainless exhaust manifolds. The car features a chromoly frame and roll cage, carbon fiber Brembo brakes and pads, carbon fiber body with front and rear diffusers as well as Aeromotions active rear wing. The V6 engine is mated to a Weismann semi-automatic, AWD transmission, two Quaife differentials and a Tilton Racing clutch. The PM580 is fitted with 17-inch HRE wheels and 275/40 Toyo rear tires.
