The
Dakar rally, which has been organized for the second time in South America in 2010, could be back in Africa in 2011.
Etienne Lavigne, Dakar’s boss, told that he had received invitations from Tunisia, Lybia, and Egypt to host the event next year. Argentina and Chile are also interested to host Dakar one more year.
From the first edition, back in 1977, the Dakar rally crossed Marocco, Mauritania, Mali and Senegal. But terrorist attacks in Mauritania forced the organizers to cancel the race in 2008, before they moved to South America in 2009 and 2010.
Carlos Sainz (Volkswagen) was the winner of the 2010 race.
