Volkswagen Motorsport's director Kris Nissen told journalists present at Rally Deutschland that VW is "very, very happy to see MINI and [...] three manufacturers."
The famous manufacturer has been linked to the World Rally Championship for many years now, without ever confirming an upcoming participation. In Deutschland, Nissen explained: “We are really very pleased to see the way the rally is going. I really think that the World Rally Championship is one of the most interesting sports in motorsport you can have. The director also insisted on the time needed to fully prepare for such a challenge as joining a world championship. “When we press the button we need about two years and that means if in the short future - I’m talking about the next months - we could make a decision we could be there in 2013 but if not we can be there in 2014,” he explained. Rumours are that the brand would develop a new VW World Rally Car out of the Polo, Golf or Scirocco would it decide to join.
