SUPERCHEAP Auto Racing has signed Austrian Christian Klien to co-drive the No. 66 Commodore with Russell Ingall at the Sandown 500 and Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. The former Formula 1 driver and Peugeot sportscar driver took part in a private test with Walkinshaw Racing recently at Winton and was confirmed this morning as Ingall’s endurance partner.
“After the Gold Coast I was determined to come back and do more V8 races,” says Klien, who will be present this weekend for the Phillip Island 300. “I met with (Walkinshaw Racing Managing Director) Steve Hallam at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide earlier this year and invited me to test for them, which we did last month. “The test went very well. After I familiarised myself with the car I worked through a program with the engineers and was able to bring my lap times down. “Mount Panorama is one of the world’s great circuits and the Bathurst 1000 is world-famous – it’s a must-do race in any racing driver’s career. He co-drove The Bottle-O Falcon with Paul Dumbrell at last year’s ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600 and took part in this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour GT/production car race this February in a Lotus before visiting the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide a week later.
