Red Light
I've only got about 3,000km on the car, but I am getting 6.2litres per 100km. I understand it takes a bit to break-in the engine, but I sure hope it happens soon so I get closer to that 4.7/100 rating on the TDI. Like another reviewer, I bought this car importantly for its fuel economy. My 7-year-old Jetta wagon is still getting 5.1/100. If the new one doesn't improve in the next few thousand km, I will be taking it back for servicing, for sure!

The headrests in the front seat appear to have only two settings (at least that I can find) and at 5'3" one setting is too high and the other is too low. The side mirrors look very cool, but I miss that extra bit of mirror on the upper left (driver side) or upper right (passenger side) corner. The storage space cover would be nicer if it were closer to the back wall (sometimes awkward to fully load the rear, although the exterior handle part does also flip upward).

This is a really nice car -- good looking (but looks a little too much like every other similar car in its size range, rather than distinctively like a VW), ergonomically comfortable on short or long trips, accelerates and maneuvers well.

Review:
Overall, this is a great car, with some minor quibbles about a couple of features (headrests, side mirrors). It's early days yet, and I still have hopes it will perform on fuel economy. At the moment, I'm not too impressed (6.2 litres/100km). That's an important downside to an otherwise great vehicle, but I'm assuming this will improve within another few thousand km.

Tall people will have trouble driving in this car. It's a short cabin, and the front seat is not fun to adjust.

Comfortable, drives really well- smooth, good handling, quiet cabin, excellent control even on gravel, ice and slush. Acceleration is great.

Review:
We just bought the Golf Wagon, wanting to trade in our SUV. We don't need the capacity of the SUV and did not appreciate gas consumption. As a family of four, we have no trouble with the Gol, but I and my husband are both under 5; 9". A very tall person would not like this car. We were most impressed with the way the car handles in difficult situations ; like on gravel and ice. We bought the stability control option, and it's worth it. The car feels very safe; handling is excellent. The headlights are also excellent.
We were seriously considering a Saab 9-3 sport combi, but since Saab is no longer, we were somewhat concerned about future maintenance and general service for the Saab. The Saab's cabin is larger, but the Golf has better interior design, and accelerates and handles better. The driving experience is equally smooth between the two vehicles; in fact I felt as though I was driving a Saab when I was driving a VW. The VW has a 5 cylinder engine, which makes it very peppy. Almost a turbo-like feeling.
I haven't used it yet in heavy snow; that will be something for a future post.
