BMW 5-Series / M5 - Quite Possibly the Perfect Car

What car would you own if you could only have one and price wasn't in the equation? Any self-respecting automotive enthusiast who has driven a BMW 5-Series would have one of its models high on their short list. Even the base 525i is more enticing than many of its competitor's mid-size entries. That said the 394-hp M5 is quite possibly the best performance sedan ever created. But maybe I'm biased?

After all, I've owned a handful of BMW's over the years. There was a 1974 Bavaria 3.0 S, a 1982 528e (that clocked over 400,000 km before I sold it), a 1985 3-Series, a 3rd generation 5-Series and a 1997 328i convertible that I factory ordered.

So why do people like me love BMWs? Is it the prestige? That's what many who haven't experienced driving one believe. Are we swayed by high quality materials and precision assembly? While build quality is definitely part of their allure, it's how they drive that keep BMW devotees committed. What makes them so good? Rather than bore you with specific details, suffice it to say BMWs are loaded with the creature comforts, build quality and attention to detail expected in a premium car. Instead let's look at the big picture - the essence of a BMW 5-Series.
