I owned a 2016 and now a 2018 X5 40e. $4,000 federal tax rebate make the car similar in price to the six cylinder. It is faster and smoother off the line, but a touch slower to 60. I average 40MPG vs 20MPG with the six. I have a strong preference towards the hybrid. The technology is absolutely invisible, and I love visiting the gas station every 3 weeks instead of every 10 days. Plugging in is fast and simple and there are a lot of charging stations these days--often free and at the front of the lot--it is like having a handicap pass. At the airport, I am next to the elevator with free electricity. Running errands, I am often driving on electric--almost totally silent. I can't think of a down side to the hybrid X5.
