Here is a fun to drive vehicle. It is called the Daihatsu Copen. It is a tiny 2-seater convertible that has a retractable hardtop called Active Top. To give you an idea, the Copen is 6 cm shorter and 3 cm narrower that the 2006 Mazda MX-5. It is powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that displaces 0.7L and generates 63 hp. The transmissions available are a 4-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual. The suspension is fully independent and brakes consist of front discs and rear drums. The tested Copen was configured as a right-hand-drive for the European market.
This is great little car that most people cannot image how much it is to drive. Even though the output numbers are low, the Copen only weighs 830 kg. Zippy it is however, fast it is not. But this is not point. The goal of this car is to get the most fun out by taking up the smallest amount of space on the road. The 78 lbs of torque are more than sufficient to make the car feel like it is flying. Fuel consumption is rated at just over 6.0 L/100 km.
To give you an idea of how popular the Copen is in Japan is a very common 2nd car or keicar. A keicar is small automobile that is exempt of certain tax and insurance requirements.
